Your Partner In Productivity

Newsletter - Autumn 2011

Greetings!

Will you be winding down your business activities during the holiday season? Perhaps you are reviewing your efforts from this current year and looking to make some adjustments in 2012 to the ways you:

Find and cultivate potential clients. Are you making it easy for people to schedule time to speak with you? Do you have structures and systems in place to follow up with them?

Assess how you manage your day-to-day processes. Are you re-inventing that same old wheel over and over again? While each client is special and you customize your packages, have you saved your scripts and created templates so that all you have to do is adjust or add a few words or phrases to fit the situation? Having an Operations Manual where you document your processes is key. Without question it's one of the most effective tools you can have in running your business.

Effectively use social media to highlight your expertise.  Are you making yourself a 'go-to' resource for potential clients?  Have you made direct connections with your target audience so when they are ready to work with a business that does what you do, they will first think to reach out to you?

If you want to make more money in the new year, then having effective strategies for finding and cultivating new clients as well as maintaining your current client base are key. Tap into my expertise. I will provide valuable solutions that will help to grow your business.

Wishing you all the best for the holiday season.

One of the benefits of a normal working environment is the colleagues you have at your disposal. They are easily accessible to help brainstorm, push through deadlines, or just listen when you need to talk through a problem. However, as a small business owner or a solo entrepreneur, a more creative approach is to have outside counsel.

It didn't take long for me to realize that I needed to replicate the workplace experience by building my own professional relationships. My solution was to implement an Advisory Committee. An Advisory Committee is a small group of trusted individuals that you can turn to for advice and feedback. They should have a genuine interest in your business as well as a strong desire to help you succeed.

The members and structure of your Advisory Committee is entirely up to you, but should be done with careful thought and consideration. A good starting point is to identify your weaknesses and look for people who will be able to help overcome the obstacles you will face. You can select anyone from friends or family all the way to retired CEOs, but be certain that their contribution will be relevant to your business's needs.

A qualified executive level Virtual Assistant can be your best ADVISOR, because with substantial access to your business and vast experience and knowledge from the corporate world as well as with other clients, a VA's perspective can provide extraordinarily valuable insights. We see the big picture together with the minutia, and adopting simple changes and ideas we recommend can often result in a profound difference to your business.

Most of all, enjoy the feeling of knowing that you are not alone and will always have someone to look to for counsel. You and your business will reap the rewards and perhaps one day you will be able to pay it forward as well.

QUESTION

While I understand that starting off you won't know everything about my business, how will I know what to delegate to you?

ANSWER:

It is expected that the first time you work with someone new there will be a learning curve for both parties. My skill is in achieving this quickly, within a couple of sessions recommending strategies to enhance your business growth.  The challenge for you will be to figure how to best utilize my skills and strengths. I make my talents known - raise my hand and tell you how I feel I can be most effective for you. As we get into the 'groove' of working together, I rapidly come to notice patterns; e.g. how often a task is handled - daily/weekly/monthly, and I schedule them on my calendar so they won't fall through the cracks.

My suggestion in starting out together is that we have a discussion that will begin with an outline of the on-going projects and systems you already have in place and the tasks associated with each, understanding that new projects will be on the horizon. Next, I would ask you to consider the skills you have come to rely on with your other team members you have worked with and where are/were you most satisfied with their performance. Are there areas that you feel could be done better? Are there projects that haven't been handled properly or that require skills they don't have?  You and I can get it all 'out on the table', so to speak, and I can address each item line-by-line so I can let you know where/how I feel I can offer my expertise to make a difference.
