                  | | The Girl Who Fell From the Sky : A City-Wide Read!

 |
 | Greetings!

I'm writing this from a one-room cottage in the woods on Whidbey Island--just outside of  Seattle--where I wrote some of the first sentences (still in the book) of The Girl Who Fell From the Sky in 1998!      I've returned to Hedgebrook , a wondrous writers' colony for women, to work on the new book having come full circle! |
 | The Buzz: Laguna Reads The Girl Who Fell From the Sky
 | | Meanwhile, the good news keeps coming in: The Girl Who Fell From the Sky is the City-Wide Read for Laguna Beach, CA!
 On
October 21, Laguna Beach Books & St. Mary's Episcopal Church co-host a special event.  I'll do a reading and join in the discussion with readers.  If you're in the area, I'd love
to see you there.

The book tour also continues through the Fall.  In
the coming weeks I'll be at Books & Books in Coral Gables, FL,
Southern California (CalArts, UCLA, and the West Hollywood Book Fair), the Collingswood Book Festival, Widener University near Philadelphia, the Wordstock Festival in Portland, OR, the West Virginia Book Festival, University of Copenhagen, Charleston, SC, New Orleans, LA,
Miami, FL again for the International Miami Book Fair, and of course,
Laguna Beach, CA.

I've listed the dates to the left and you can find details on my website here.  (You can keep up-to-date on all the book news as it happens here.)

                                The Beginning
 | | I leave you with an insight into the beginning of this journey.  This is an entry I made in the Hedgebrook cottage journal when I was here in 1998-a sketch (I don't draw) and some thoughts.

The entry says "10/1/98: my last night--
This is me I guess. I drew the picture when I couldn't write -- I hadn't thought about it being a self-portrait until now mostly because it has no face--but maybe this is how I have come to know myself here -- a full, floating woman's body heading toward -- flying toward something -- and perhaps that is why I have no face--this woman I have become is still unrecognizable -- but I want to work on that . . ."

I went on to write: "This has been an awesome experience.  I am humbled by it and feel like it woud be a disservice to this new me to not finish this book."

I'm so glad I did finish--it's been a wonderful blessing to be able to share it.

                  | |      Again, thank you all for your warm wishes and support!  I hope to see you on the road!
   Sincerely, Heidi
