Publication Update:
The Girl Who Fell From the Sky

Greetings!

My novel, The Girl Who Fell From the Sky (Algonquin Books), will be in bookstores February 2010.

I am so excited to share this story, a coming-of-age tale about a biracial/bicultural girl and society's ideas of race, class and beauty.

Writer Barbara Kingsolver calls it: "Haunting and lovely, pitch-perfect."  It was Ms. Kingsolver who chose my book for the Bellwether Prize for Fiction!  I am so grateful that she made publication of this book possible!

I was also thrilled to learn that Publishers Weekly, the leading publishing trade magazine, named my book one of the season's Top Ten Debut NovelsRead what Publishers Weekly had to say and learn more about the book on my newly designed website.
Pre-order the Book: Bookstore, On-line, Library
Bellwether SealSo there's some good stuff happening with the book already, but I hope you will help make sure the book's debut is a success.  Here's how:

  • You can pre-order the book now at your local bookstore or through any on-line retailer including: IndieBound.org; Amazon.com; Borders; Powells; and Barnes & Noble.  Pre-orders help create buzz!  And many retailers offer a discount too.  (Or pre-order the audio version which will be released simultaneously!)

  • You can also request the book at your local library.  Library sales are a huge driving force in how well a book does.  Please consider reserving the book or telling your local librarian you'd like to read The Girl Who Fell From the Sky.

Below are direct links to libraries where you may live which do not require a library card in making a request:

New York Public Library

Los Angeles Public Library

Multnomah County Library

The book's ISBN number is 1565126807--libraries often ask for this additional information.  It is not required.

And remember, if your book club chooses to read The Girl Who Fell From the Sky, I would love to join you for the discussion.  Please email me at heidi@heidiwdurrow.com with the subject: Book Club.  I'll join you in person, via conference call, or video conference call.

There's also a book tour in the works.  I'm looking forward to seeing all you Portland people on Feb. 23, 2010, at the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center for a reading and celebration.  I'll be making stops in Seattle, New York and L.A. as well.  If you have a connection to a bookstore, school, or university in your area, let me know, and I'll do my best to see you there!

And thank you all for supporting my work and writing, for reading my blog (the tales of Light-skinned-ed Girl continue), and for being part of this incredible journey, a life's dream coming true.

Sincerely,

Heidi
