New Milford Medical Group has seasonal flu vaccine available for existing patients.  If you have an upcoming appointment, you will be offered a flu shot at your appointment.  If you don’t have an upcoming appointment, you can either call for one or can attend one of our two flu shot clinics.   Our flu shot clinics are on Thursday, October 15th and Thursday, November 12th from 5-8 pm. 
 
We’ve been getting many inquiries about the H1N1 vaccine and assure you that we will continue to keep you informed when we have the vaccine available. Currently, the proposed timetable for releasing the H1N1 vaccine is mid-October with priority groups (as defined by the CDC) taking precedence. For the latest public health information on the H1N1 vaccine, visit www.cdc.gov to help answer any questions you may have.
 
What are the symptoms?
  • Fever (a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • Lethargy
  • Lack of appetite
  • Coughing
  • Body aches
  • Runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea have been reported.
 
What steps can you take to prevent the spread of the flu?
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing (or use your shirt sleeve)
  • Stay home if you feel sick
  • Avoid contact with infected individuals
  • Get the H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available
 
What should you do if you get the flu?
  • Take Tylenol, Advil, or other fever reducing medication
  • Stay home for at least 24 hours after you have a normal temperature without medication
  • Rest
  • Call our office if your fever doesn’t respond to medication or if you have difficulty breathing.
