Stop the Robocalls
Are you tired of getting automated calls while you're trying to eat dinner? We would all likely agree there's far too much political noise from all directions these days. Over the weekend, The Bee reported that Channel 3 broadcasted 15 campaign ad into a one half-hour broadcast.
It's a mistake to use social media as another form of distribution for your message. Unlike TV, radio and direct mail, social media is highly personal and social. Imagine setting in a restaurant with a friend and a stranger pulls up a chair and begins a sales pitch. He references the product and pulls out a contract and then asked for an order.
I often see social media used as another traditional platform for a pitch and I've fallen into the trap myself. As marketing professionals, we're pre-wired to marketing speak and it's important not to transfer the same messaging to the new platforms. They are not channels to sell things, but rather a network to influence, connect and share information in an increasing impersonal world.

No Time to Blog? 5 Great Ideas to Develop Content
According to David Spark, the social media world falls into the "haves" and the "have nots." There are those people that are hyper socially connected and then everyone else who can't understand how they find the time. Spark believes the problem is that the have nots haven't figured out how to ingrain social media in their everyday lives. Here are a few of his ideas:
1) What do you want to be know for? Once you know, you've found your editorial voice.
2) Think in Headlines. Numbered & to do lists are great and even shall I say....the National Enquirer.
3) Look at your sent email. Is there anything that you've recently experienced that would make a good posting?
4) Blog about a great conversation. Conferences, trade shows and dinners are a great source for rich content.
5) Tell a personal story. |
