For every hour of TV, there is approximately 15 minutes of commercials. Who's got time and who's interested in watching several commercials in a row, several times through your show?
Google recently announced ambitious technology, called Google TV that would connect the Internet with traditional TV. This would enable viewers to watch TV and connect to the Internet on their television. Unlike the Apple TV, Google's strength is their search engine capabilities, which has the potential of catapulting their product to a much more sophisticated and intuitive user interface.
Brittany Bohnet and fiance Dave Morin use to plop down in front of their television with a smart phone in one hand, and the remote control in the other and a computer resting in their lap. But with Google TV, the couple can watch the latest episode of AMC's "Mad Men," check updates from friends and post pictures on Flickr of Dave's proposal to Brittany. Bohnet, runs the marketing campaign for Google TV and is one of 400 Google employees testing the Google TV*.
Today we can record and replay TV as we like with a DVR. We can also download a movie on Netflix or create a station on Pandora with Blu-Ray or an Xbox. However, it's cumbersome and limited to only a few applications. Tomorrow we'll have a much broader and user-friendly television experience with limitless opportunities...now that's a TV worth adding to the household.
