Real World Meets Digital World
Quick response codes or QR codes can be used to bridge the real world to the digital world. Also referred to as a tag, a QR Code is a 2d barcode that can be read from a smartphone. Here's a few applications... Offline: Add a QR Code to your brochure or white papers. Instead of ending the message on the printed piece, draw the audience into a conversation with an online interface. For example, a realtor may advertise in a local newspaper with a 2d barcode in an ad which then takes them to a short online tour of the property with online chat or questionnaire. Onsite: Add a QR Code to point of purchase (POP) material, poster, and or onsite signage can create a high level of engagement, in addition to increasing the average sale. Restaurants, gaming and retailers can use this to increase the average sale.

More Communications Doesn't Mean Better by Janet Osterdock
In our new world of business, many are confused on how to use emerging technology. Facebook and Twitter are often used as just another means of pushing information to an audience as a traditional promotion. In reality, these platforms provide an improved marketing resource to hear first hand the customers' opinions and preferences. Since these are dynamic platforms, they require managing on a higher level than traditional messaging programs.
Take BP for example with presence on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, live feeds and even underwater camcorders showing us real-time footage. The BP website features wildlife rescue, contact information for claims and response efforts, all which is much appreciated. What about the effort to contain or stop the spill and what about collaboration on how to resolve? This is a far reaching problem and social media could provide a strong platform for this type of collaboration.
What we need is less noise and more action.
