@Is Twitter Dead?

Last month in LA, John Mayer participated in a Q & A for the American Society for Composers, Actors, and Publishers, and said that every night for the past two weeks, he thinks about canceling his Twitter account. O.K., so Mayer does not want to receive hate messages, who does?

How about Twitter as a marketing platform?  Does messaging drive revenue? Some say yes, some say no.  The fact is, Twitter is growing by approximately 300,000 users per day in addition to the average number of followers growing exponentially making it hard to overcome the noise this creates. With the customer as king, how does Twitter develop the relationship and how do you catch your audience with the right message at the right time? There are some very creative Twitter applications but for the most part, you're still pushing information  with very little personalization or engagement in an age of hyper-communication.

As a business owner, I'm more concerned with getting the best return for my time. Of course, Twitter is great  a great app to have in your tool box so don't shy away. There are also plenty of auto posting services to help keep content fresh.

Mayer recommends micro blog www.tumblr.com  Check it out, I did and it's pretty swoopy.

@Case Study: email invite

For 14 years, United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack have reached out to women executives for it's Annual Women's Breakfast event.  Invitations were printed and sent through the mail at a cost of approx. $10,000.

Last year, they hired e-marketing agency Flimp Agency to develop and execute an email invitation. Flimp understood that their recipients get invitations of this nature all the time.  They included a two-paragrah descriptions and links listing event details. They also included a 60-second video with a once-trouble youth turned community leader who was also speaking at the event.

They sent two emails to it's 4,600 database.  Through forwarding, the message reached 6,000 people with 63% of those that watched the video, registered for the event. 956 attended the event, which was an increase of 28% from the previous year and $409,826 raised, which was a 97% improvement.
