It's Time
In the early 90's, many businesses thought the Internet, was simply a playground for young adults and geeks. Sound familiar? Sure, we saw overnight successes and millionaires, which quickly imploded with the dot com bust. Ten years later, some of our largest businesses and corporations support this technology in some way or another.
The next wave of technological development is people-centric and social media is the result of that change. It's more than casual conversation with friends and family. As reported by USA Today, sponsors of the Vancouver Olympics refer to the games as the "Social Games". Katie Bayne, Marketing Chief for Coca-Cola North American, has identified this change and states "Every piece of our Olympic marketing has a social and mobile component."
Our Olympians are also using the Twitter Platform to show us a behind the scenes look at the games in real time. Please see side bar for links.
We're still early in the adoption phase of integrating social media into our businesses, but it's growing exponentially and early adopters will have a significant advantage from those who wait.
