Good Nutrition Month
Encourage students to brainstorm a list of healthy snacks that they can substitute for their normal snacks. For instance: Instead of potato chips, which contain about 150 calories an ounce, how about a cup of air-popped popcorn which only contains about 30 calories? Or instead of a handful of jelly beans, why not a handful of frozen grapes? Remind students that snacking isn't a bad thing as long as they remember to snack healthily and in moderation!
Child Safety and Protection Month
Students' safety and protection is of the utmost importance. Since Autumn is in the air and outdoor activities are on the rise, remind students of safety precautions they should take while playing outdoors. Have students draft a fire escape plan for their homes. Assign students dangerous scenarios and place them into groups so they can brainstorm ideas on how to safely get out of them. There are plenty of activities you can incorporate on safety and protection, just use your imagination!
