BBQEqual Dollars BBQ
Great people, great food, great times

On Thursday, July 26, the Equal Dollars team held a BBQ at the urban farm in North Philadelphia. The BBQ was intended to be a celebration during which Equal Dollars members could socialize and meet the people who keep the organization running smoothly. It was also a chance for people in the community to stop by, grab some food, and learn what Equal Dollars is all about.

RHD's Abby Lang and Onyeka Anaedozie travel to Lancaster County to get a personal look at where their food comes from

Each Monday, more than 100 people shop at RHD Equal Dollars Markets in two locations: RHD's Wissahickon Ave office and Shelton Banquet Hall at 29th and Ridge in the Strawberry Mansion community. Members are able to use Equal Dollars community currency paired with US dollars to buy straight-from-the-farm produce at great prices. Depending on the growing season, vegetables span the everyday and the exotic, including new potatoes, collards, parsnips, green beans and endive. On a recent Monday, we joined Equal Dollars Director Deneene Brockington on her weekly trip to Lancaster County to bring back fresh vegetables from three family-run Amish farms. It was surprising to find how close to Route 1 we were as we entered a world of cornfields, working farms and horse-drawn buggies.

Equal Dollars Community Currency is featured in the English edition of People Money:The Promise of Regional Currencies
Think Equal Dollars is a pretty cool concept? Well, so do we and so do the authors of the book People Money: The Promise of Regional Currencies by Margrit Kennedy, Bernard Lietaer and John Rogers.

People Money highlights Equal Dollars among other great community currencies across the US and the world. The book demonstrates how local currencies can change people's lives and help communities build stronger local economies.

What is THAT?!?

We'll help you identify mysterious foods and turn them into delicious meals!

What's green, yellow and looks like a flying saucer? It's a patty pan squash! Patty pan squash is a summer squash notable for its small size, round  shape and scalloped edges. Patty pan squash can be stuffed and baked, fried and even pickled!

Bryant Hill

For Equal Dollars Community Currency, supporting a healthy local economy also means supporting the health of our community.

Bryant Hill became an Equal Dollars member in December 2011. He became involved with Equal Dollars through Richard & Friends United in the Community, a nonprofit which feeds roughly 1,000 people in need every month. In the spring of 2011, Equal Dollars and Richard & Friends created a partnership with one another through which Richard & Friends often receives donations from the Equal Dollars food market.
