ABM/Educator Programs for Family Centers

We are excited about this development.  Beverly is in the preliminary stages of developing a series of  one hour programs over a period of 5 weeks for Staff and 10 committed Parents and their babies at one of several Family Centers in San Francisco. Having a group of committed parents and Staff is essential to making a difference in the lives of families in the Early Years.  The parents who go to this multi-cultural Center may be involved in these programs for 5 years up to Pre-Kindergarten.  The influence of a small group of Staff and their families can have an expanded influence on the other families and children in the long term.

In addition to Beverly's Developmental Movement Programs for Baby to Age 3, the Center is interested in our educational ABM Books and DVDs used by professionals, educators and parents world wide.  These in demand resources in 5 languages provide information and ongoing support for both Staff and Parents.

Studying Babies Moving at the Baby's Level

What is the link between movement development, social interaction and self-motivated problem-solving? This has been my passion for over 25 years and the essential approach as seen in my video study of babies moving documented in my educational videos and books.

The reason I am talking about this is that The New York Times published an article today called "Insights From the Youngest Minds"  based on the work of Dr. Elizabeth S. Spelke, a professor of psychology and a pre-eminent researcher of human cognition and organization of the human mind.  She says adults are "too stuffed full of facts" to study, therefore go straight to the source, and consult the recently born.  So as with many infant researchers they start designing experiments.  Now why is it that they usually study babies who are already sitting independently or place them in sitting positions or have the parent hold them in a sitting position so that they are looking at movies, objects or other types of experiments?

Most of them don't get down to the baby's level on the floor/ground and observe what the baby is interested in.  Like this baby exploring his body through touch and movement and socially engaging in spontaneous social interactions. Why don't more Professors of Psychology study Movement Development?
