Happy Baby - Expressive Body | |
Two-month old babies are more alert with greater sensory awareness. They are not just passively receiving stimulation, even at this early age, babies actively search out for what they will focus on, pay attention to, and interact with.
By the end of the baby's second month, babies are alert most of their waking time and their expressive communication repertoire is expanding.
This baby demonstrates that he is an active partner in social interactions, both engaging others and responding to those around him "...and the distance over which co-ordinated interchanges can occur extends continuously outward, no longer only occurring while infants are held".
Andrew Lock, Preverbal Communication: Handbook of Infancy Research, Blackwell 1999.
How can we tell this from these two photos? Jot down your observations and send them to us. We have noted 5 distinct ones. |
