Babies' Movement Shapes Spinal Curve 1
The Pre-Locomotion Stage - Newborn- 5 months
Newborn babies begin lifting their head interacting with the friendly force of gravity. All your baby's antigravity movements in Tummy Time play - lifting, turning, extending, and flexing her head, develop the neck curve (cervical curve). At four months, the first reversed curve of the spine becomes visible and you will notice your baby's shapely neck curve. |
Babies' Movement Shapes Spinal Curve 2
The Locomotion Stage - 6 months - 12 months
Babies continue to interact with the ever-present force of gravity, lifting their bellies up to creep on hands and knees, progressing to verticality in independent sitting, standing and walking. All these actions that lead to these developmental milestones, shape the second reverse curve in the lower back (lumbar curve).
Form Follows Function The developmental process helps us to understand how function (body movement) influences form (spinal curves) in the natural S-curve alignment of the neutral spine and how form provides for more efficient movement.

Containers - infant seats, exersaucers and swings...
Today's parents have a wide variety of infant equipment to choose from. Overuse of these types of containers, restrict the baby's natural desire to move and explore. Physical activity can be unintentionally reduced, causing an exploration deficit in movement play and motor development. Babies need movement to build their body, brain and joy of movement!
Move and have fun with your baby every day. FloorMoves™ is the daily activity that gets babies and parents moving. In movement play on the floor, babies can experiment what they can do with their body at each stage of development. FloorMoves is the best daily movement activity for your baby and you will discover a good fitness workout for you too!
