Best Practices in the Funeral Industry

Interment of Angels
Bliley
Bliley Funeral Home

3801 Augusta Avenue

Richmond, VA. 23230

Nine Services are scheduled for infants in the the Richmond area for 2011. The letter below gives the details of this Best Practice.

 Dear Parent,

Through a cooperative effort among Richmond area hospitals, Bliley Funeral Home and The Catholic Diocese of Richmond, your child will be buried in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. This is at no cost to you. You and your family are invited to attend our next graveside memorial service. Services are generally led by a priest from the Richmond Diocese or a local pastor.

Your baby with other babies from the hospital will be placed in modest caskets with the hospital's name and the mother's last name or child's name listed on each casket. There may be more than one baby in each casket. The caskets will be buried in one grave. Due to cemetery regulations grave markers are not allowed; however, by making note of the burial location, you can visit the gravesite in the future as you wish. A statue honoring the unborn child and a memorial garden given by the Richmond Knights of Columbus are nearby.

Sincerely,
Mr. Arthur L. Thornton

 Remembering The Mother's

Mother's Day, Memorial Day, and Father's Day will soon unfold a season of renewal and remembrance.  Churches and funeral homes in particular, offer comfort and support to families, honoring our fallen heroes on Memorial Day through public acknowledgement and ceremony.  When it comes to Mother's Day and Father's Day however, who comforts parents who have suffered loss of a baby family member?  Often forgotten and alone, they endure unfathomable sorrow.

No bereaved parent should have to grieve in isolation while everyone openly honors mother and fathers of living children.

Last year for the very first time AgapéCare Cradle, a charitable organization and licensed funeral establishment caring for families through the tragedy of losing a baby, published special ads on Mother's Day and Father's Day.  These ads acknowledged Kansas parents whose babies have died before birth or as infants, recognizing them as legitimate parents equal to any other parent.  AgapéCare Cradle was able to publish the ads through the generosity of sponsors who gave financial gifts to cover the cost.

Mother's Day

A day to honor EVERY mother including moms

who have lost children from the womb

or as infants.

Mothers who have lost babies are

no less moms but are sometimes

forgotten on Mother's Day.

On Mother's Day this year please

take a moment to say a kind word

send a note or card

give a hug

or simply listen to a mom

who holds her precious baby

close in memory

and forever in her heart.
