Webcast: It'll work, but is it UL and NFPA approved? The UL White Book is often referred to as 'the rest of the story' when it comes to properly choosing, specifying and installing electrical apparatus. This archived Webcast presented by Thomas Lichtenstein, Senior Staff Engineer in UL's Regulatory Services Department, explains what the UL White Book is, and how it can simplify electrical equipment specification, installation, inspection and acceptance...Watch the Webcast (Editor's Note: Webcast may take a second to load from NFPA server; be sure to hit play, lower left hand corner of the video player window.)
Destroying Myths About Reconditioned BreakersDon't just take PEARL's word for it. Author Dick Bopp looks at when reconditioned breakers make sense. His checklist of considerations for qualifying reconditioned breakers includes all the planks of the PEARL platform: test, document, use accepted best practices and know your supplier. PEARL would add: recondition to the only accepted industry standard... How To Inspect, Recondition and Test Medium Voltage Disconnect Switches Like low voltage
disconnect switches, medium voltage disconnect switches perform a number
of functions. The term "disconnect" refers to the act of interrupting
or causing an opening in an electrical circuit. In addition to turning
off whatever load is consuming this electricity, disconnecting allows
for the isolation of the down stream circuit for purposes of inspection
and maintenance.
Disconnect switches often
serve as enclosures for over current protection when they contain
fuses. Some can also be a part of a larger protection scheme when
equipped with a shunt trip that can be signaled by relays elsewhere in
the network...Read More
