Join us August 8 - 14 for a week of workshops featuring Mark Salyer and MUSICAL DIRECTOR EXTRAORDINAIRE Mary Ekler. $25/class or $50 for a full week of your age group's workshops.

 

Monday 10:00 - 12:00 Children's Acting ages 6 - 11 with Mark. We'll explore daily physical and vocal warm-ups, the basics of acting and building confidence!

 

Monday 1:00 - 5:00 Monologue Workshop with Mark, ages 12 and up. Working with assigned monologues, students will analyze text for beats and tone, work on character development and intention, and prepare their monologues for performance and/or audition.

 

Tuesday 10:00 - 12:00 Children's Singing ages 6 - 11 with Mark. Come explore the basics of vocal production and learn a great new song!

 

Tuesday 1:00 - 5:00, Scene Study with Mark, ages 12 and up. Using new, contemporary scenes, we'll explore the process of acting with a partner - text analysis, the process of listening, intentions and obstacles, and how to prepare your scene for performance.

 

Wednesday 10:00 - 5:00 Showcase Auditions/Rehearsal Acting and Scenes. Students who wish to audition for Sunday's showcase for either age group will present their monologues or scenes. (Note: a limited number of scenes and monologues will be presented in the showcase).

 

Thursday  1:00 - 5:00 Musical Theatre Workshop with nationally recognized musical director and pianist, Mary Ekler (see below bio), ages 12 and up. Join Mary as she explores your song from  a musical prospective and for undertstanding. Mary will also work with you to cut your song for your upcoming auditions.

 

Friday  10:00 - 12:00, Children's Musical Theatre Workshop ages 6 - 11 with Mary. Each student will work on a prepared song exploring musically and for meaning.

 

Friday  1:00 - 5:00 Musical Theatre Workshop - THE BIG NUMBER with Mary and Mark, ages 12 and up. We'll learn both the music and staging for a wonderful opening number for our Sunday Showcase. If you've ever seen Mary musical direct a group song you DO NOT WANT TO MISS. She's a phenom!

 

Saturday 10:00 - 5:00 Showcase rehearsal, all showcase participants.  Review scenes, monologues, musical theatre rehearsal. Mary and Mark.

 

Sunday 1:00 - 5:00 Showcase rehearsal, all showcase participants.

 

Sunday 7:00 Performance. Location TBD. Tickets will be available for $10.00.

Mary Ekler

MARY EKLER MUSICAL DIRECTOR

Mary Ekler has appeared in various musical capacities (music director, pianist, composer, arranger, producer, vocalist) around the globe. Her compositions have been performed and recorded by artists such as Helen Reddy, Sergio Mendes, Glenn Yarbrough, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Dianne Reeves, and  Deneice Williams. Her songs have been featured in numerous films and television productions. 

 

She has served as Musical Director, keyboardist, vocalist and arranger with the Grammy award winning group, Wilson Phillips, and with artists Rita Coolidge, Helen Reddy, Glenn Yarbrough, Freda Payne, Stefanie Powers, Lorenzo Lamas, Dale Kristien, Bill Hutton, Michael Maguire, Dee Dee Sharp, and Little Anthony and the Imperials.

 

Musical theatre credits include: Company, Kismet - Reprise!;The World Goes 'Round directed by Kay Cole - TTP; S.T.A.G.E. with Sam Harris, Rita Moreno, Carol Channing, Orange County Performing Arts Center Cabaret Series,  Feinsteins NYC, Pantages Theatre's How the Grinch Stole Christmas, San Francisco Palace, Ahmanson Theatre.

 

Mary teaches and coaches privately in Los Angeles.

Friends and Neighbors June 20 - July 1

This camp will give your children the true experience of our city by getting to know all those who play a part in making Norton a truly friendly neighborhood.  Students will meet and greet with several professionals from the area who will come in and explain how they contribute as our very own friendly neighborhood helpers! Students will also do a short production based on these very professions!

 

Where We Come From July 11 - 15 

This camp will give students the opportunity to explore the world in the comfort of their own hometown!  Students will be treated to tastes from local ethnic restaurants and have crafts, songs, and dances based on each culture's influences. Two days will be based on our very own

Red, White,and Blue!
