If you haven't made it to one of Capitol's alumni events yet, save the date for an upcoming outing. In this issue of the Capitol Connector, learn about the discount offer for companies looking to attend the career fair, discover how the doctorate program is fitting into one alum's life and see the benefits of Capitol's new partnership with the Maryland Space Grant Consortium.

Upcoming Alumni Events   

AlumniBecause you became a member of the Alumni Association once you received your degree, you're welcomed to the numerous alumni events happening in your area.   

   

Feb 22: Northern Virginia Alumni Happy Hour at Piola in Arlington    

Celebrate National Engineers Week, or just meet up with fellow Capitol alumni at Piola in Arlington, VA from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

 

March 15: National Electronics Museum  

Join Capitol alumni for the second evening reception of the year, held at the National Electronics Museum (NEM) from 6 pm to 8:30 pm in Linthicum, Md.  Focusing on the history of electronics, the NEM is a natural fit for a Capitol College alumni event. Alumni will enjoy the opportunity to tour the museum and meet the Alumni Council Leadership. Don't forget the free meal and drinks as well!

 

All Capitol alumni are welcome to attend. If you cannot make it and are interested in attending or bringing an alumni happy hour to your area please let us know.

If your company or organization is looking for dynamic new employees, Capitol College's Career Fair may be the perfect recruiting venue. As an alum,career fair you know the value of your Capitol degree. And by hiring additional Capitol graduates, you can ensure that your organization will by hiring tomorrow's leaders.

Capitol's 27th annual career fair will be held on Friday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the McGowan Academic Center.

Organizations that register to attend by March 15 can take advantage of the discounted price of $100, while registration up until March 29 is offered for $120.

Pete StarlandMeet Alumnus, Doctorate Student Pete Starland  

After earning his master's in information assurance and his MBA from Capitol, Pete Starland was awarded the prestigious SMART scholarship this past summer.

 

Thanks to the scholarship, Starland is now working as an information assurance specialist at SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific in San Diego, Calif., while also pursuing his doctorate in information assurance at Capitol.

"I think my Capitol education let me hit the ground running, or as they like to say out here, hit the deck running," Starland said. "I knew more than I thought I did about how to do this job, and I have Capitol's professors to thank for that."

Capitol Partners With MDSGC
SOICapitol College has recently announced its new partnership with Maryland Space Grant Consortium (MDSGC), which is part of NASA's National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program, an organization that contributes to the nation's science enterprise by funding research, education, and public service projects through a national network of 52 university-based Space Grant consortia.

The partnership with MDSGC provides Capitol's students with more opportunities to receive hands-on learning at various NASA facilities, including NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Capitol's partnership opportunities throughout the state of Maryland and nationally within the space science community will continue to expand.
