Recipe of the Month |
One of our recent guests fell in love with the herbed buttermilk biscuits Chef Alphonsine had in the bread basket. If you've got the patience, you can enjoy them at home too.

Wine Picks | |
This is the time of year we begin serious tasting to refine our list. Here are a couple that have caught our taste buds so far:
Pomum Cellars - Vino Tinto 2007 - WA
In Spanish speaking countries if you want red wine you order "Tinto." In Spain you will typically be given a red wine made with the Tempranillo grape. Pommum's Tinto was grown from the very first plantings of this varietal in Washington. Even though the vines are young, the nose of this dark crimson wine exhibits elegant dark fruit and licorice aromas, characteristic of Spanish Tintos. This medium body wine has flavors of plum and blackberry with lush tannins. (72% Tempranillo, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot) $25
Coho Headwaters Napa Valley Red Wine 2008 - CA
Firm, rich and vibrant, intense, focused, concentrated fruit with dried currant, mineral, plum and spice. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. $49

Christimas & New Years | |
Celebrate in style with Coho's extraordinary holiday dinners. We'll be serving on December 25th and will ring in the New Year on the 31st. We'll even be open New Year's Day. Chef Alphonsine is planning special holiday menus for Christmas and New Year's Eve. New Year's Day will feature our regular winter menu. As you know, our tiny restaurant can only fit so many people. We hate to be redundant, but these holiday extravaganzas are always booked to capacity; it's not too early to make your reservations - the earlier the better. | |

Greetings!
Tired of bemoaning the dearth of good quality sushi on the Island, we finally decided to remedy the situation! Beginning Wednesday, November 10th, we'll be open for lunch every Wednesday serving fresh, made-to-order sushi. Our prize fish is tender, young albacore brought in by High Seas Tuna, which will be featured in our weekly maki selections. We'll have other fish and vegetarian maki as well. (Check our Coho blog to read about this amazing albacore and the sustainable fishing practices).
There will also be a ramen bowl of the week- a flavorful soup filled with copious noodles and our chef's selection of either smoked pork, chicken or shrimp. Of course, we'll also have all the traditional fixings including miso soup, seaweed salad, green tea, hot and cold sake, and Asian-inspired ice creams. Dine in or take out, your pleasure - first come, first served - either way, you'll experience the freshest sushi around!
If you're a sushi fan, plan your visit to the island this fall to include a Wednesday and join us for lunch. Remember, we will be open Thursday - Saturday for our regular dinner service.
Looking forward to seeing you! Best,

Chef Alphonsine has drawn up a preliminary menu. We are going to have a staff tasting - a veritable dress rehearsal of sorts - early next week. Thanks!!

A big round of applause and appreciation to all those who've participated in the San Juan Community Theater /Coho dinner package. It was great to see so many familiar faces. For locals, it's a chance to enjoy a "big city" evening without having to go off island, but for visitors, it's a great opportunity to experience "small town" entertainment and community theater at its best. We are proud of our beautiful theater and its productions, but it takes great effort to keep the ticket sales reasonably priced and still cover operating expenses. Don't forget, a portion of the lodging tax on each guests' hotel room goes back to the theater, so visitors may as well reap what they've sown so-to-speak. We also hoped you enjoyed our brand new coffee blend....and that it didn't really keep you up 'til midnight! We are working on a few other collaborations with the theater; we'll keep you posted as soon as they are finalized. Thank you on behalf of our partners at San Juan Community Theater for your enthusiastic and continued support!

Our 2-for-$70 has been so wildly popular, we've decided to offer it offer every day, year round from 5 - 5:45 p.m! Two can come in any day and enjoy three course dinners including soup and salad, choice of entrée from our New Fall Menu and house-made ice cream for dessert, plus a bottle of wine for just $70! Got a third person joining you? No problem - we'll add another glass of wine and the same three-course meal for an additional $35. See something on the regular menu that looks too good to pass up? Go ahead and order - it's just a tiny upcharge.
