Greetings!

Greetings from Friday Harbor!

This past weekend we celebrated Father's Day and our first summer wedding of the season.  We woke up to a morning downpour, but by 1 pm, just minutes before the ceremony, there was sunshine and clearing skies!  The day ended with a picture perfect rainbow and sunset.

Some of our guests who were not here for the wedding spent the afternoon whale watching with San Juan Safaris.  Here is an excerpt from naturalist Jaclyn's blog entry from Sunday.  "On our way around the island we stopped for magnificent views of Bald Eagles, both mature adults and immature sub adults all in trees near a washed up Harbor Seal carcass. The eagles really are scavengers first, predators second.

We spent our afternoon on the northwest corner of San Juan Island with Southern Resident Orcas from J & L pods!  J pod was passing Henry Island and playing in a rip current where presumably they were fishing. They were very active....changing direction, tail slapping, and even some logging at the surface by 1 or 2 whales. They continued north forming tight groups and picked up speed with a few Orcas porpoising out of the water. Then...again....more activity....even a few breaches! The L12 subgroup was not far behind.  We dropped our hydrophone in the water and picked up some clicks (echolocation used in hunting) and a few squeals and whistles (communication between the whales).  A perfect afternoon."

As you plan your perfect trip, please let us know if we can be of any assistance.  We are more than willing to share our local knowledge.

Looking forward to meeting you and hosting you here no matter what your holiday has in store.

With warm regards,

Anna Maria and Dave

Mollie's Travel Tips:
The San Juan Island's are a really cool place to live and visit.  Everyone is really nice to four-legged friends.  Many of the shop owners in Friday Harbor have water bowls.  My favorite walk is to Friday Harbor Seafood as Brenda and Eric always have yummy treats for me.  Popeye, the seal that lives in the Harbor, sometimes gets a bit curious of me....I don't feed her sardines like the two-legged folks.  If I am out doing errands, Browne's Lumber and Whidbey Bank are also sure to please with treats!

We have a play yard at the Inns where you are welcome to hang out.  I like taking long naps under the giant Sequoia tree.

Best Place to Meet the Locals:
Eddie's Dog Park (Mullis Street between Browne's Lumber and the Fire Station)

Best Hike:
English Camp National Park Site - Mt. Young

Best Place to Swim:
American Camp National Park - South Beach.

If you need any other assistance, please ask me.

See you soon, Mollie
