Greetings!
Greetings from Friday Harbor! There is something for everyone this summer on San Juan Island whether your interest is history, wildlife or athletic events.
Plans are underway this summer for a number of once in a lifetime historical celebrations. The Town of Friday Harbor Centennial will culminate with a Lummi Nation Celebration over the 4th of July. This three day celebration will begin with the arrival of canoes followed by a salmon bake, gifting ceremony, music, poetry and dance.
The sesquicentennial (150th) celebration of the Pig War crisis at American Camp and British Camp - the Island's two National Park sites will include living historical reenactments, special lectures and nature walks every Saturday throughout the summer.
The wildlife operators are open for the season. The Orcas have been spotted quite a bit this month. The stellar sea lions are still here and the eagles and marine birds are plentiful.
For those looking for a more active vacation - the San Juan Island Celebrity Golf Classic is the first weekend in June along with the San Juan Island Marathon. What a beautiful place to qualify for the Boston Marathon or Olympic trials!
Looking forward to meeting you and hosting you here no matter what your holiday has in store.
With warm regards,
Anna Maria and Dave
