Once the dust settled for Future Quest we were able
to pay for everything but as many of you know it drained all of our reserves.
In fact, we were not able to make payroll BUT we prayed and asked the prayer
chain to pray as well. The Lord provided enough to cover payroll last week and
we would like to ask EVERYONE to thank the Lord with us for His provision. We
have many things we would like to accomplish in ministry this fall and your
continued support, based on how the Lord leads you, is what makes it possible.
Take a minute and pray right now...

As God's people, we are expected to proclaim
what great things He has done in our lives so that people will be drawn to
discover Jesus for themselves. Sometimes people have certain hang-ups so that
they want to keep Jesus at arms length. But there is great power in your own
personal story, the kind of power that can draw people toward Jesus. Come on
out this weekend as we continue our chapter by chapter and verse by verse study
of the book of Mark with a message called "How Important Are Your Pigs" from Mark 5: 1 - 20 ...See ya Sunday.
Coming
up.... - August 15:
Mark 5: 21 - 34 "Touched"
-
August 22:
Mark 5: 35 - 43 "Lord of Life"

A Word of Encouragement

Joshua
9: 14 (NKJV)
Then the men of
Israel took some of their provisions; but they did not ask counsel of the Lord.
So Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them... The children
of Israel were not supposed to make any kind of agreements with the people in
the land of Canaan but they were deceived. The Gibeonites dressed up in old
clothes with worn out sandals and patched up wine skins so that it appeared
they had come for a distant land. They said they just wanted to make sure
Israel was going to stop at the borders of Canaan - so make peace with us
because we're from a far country. The problem was the Gibeonites were lying and
the men of Israel bought it because "they did not ask counsel of the Lord." So many times we come across "opportunities" in life
that just seem like no-brainers. We don't have to pray about this business
opportunity or that family decision because it seems obvious what we ought to
do. Even worse, we allow ungodly activities or habits into our lives. We don't
pray about these things - perhaps because we know what God is going to say or
maybe the situation looks "okay." But we are reminded here that there is an
enemy who seeks to undermine our walk with God. He will use deception and he is
very clever. Just because something looks like a "sure thing," never forget to
bathe every decision you make in life in prayer. "Take counsel with the Lord
God almighty and your plans will be made certain." |
Children's Ministry
Parents, how many of you reading this have told your
children to "just drop it?" I know I am not the only one! When they
beg you for the latest video game for five minutes straight, when their
sibling is breathing just a little too loud right next to them and they can't
let it go so they whine and whine, or when they complain that it is unfair that
the kids next door get to stay up an hour later than them on school nights!
What do we as parents do to let them know, enough is enough? For most of us, we
pull out that "parent look" and express in a "I mean business"
voice, "Just drop it"! Guess what, this advice is actually Biblically
based. Just look in Proverbs 17:14, "Starting a quarrel is like breaching
a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out" (NIV). Basically-
Just drop it! This month's Virtue is Peace! Jesus came so we might
have it in our lives. We as the adults, need to set the example for our
children and help them to live peacefully and not get carried away with the
little things. We would love to help your children receive a "piece"
of this "Peace" that our Lord instructed us about. Hopefully we see
you there! Upcoming children's ministry events:
- August 29th- Back to school event for kiddos
- November 21st- Thanksgiving Play
- December 19th- Christmas Play
Donations needed: Gently used toys for the nursery |
