Praying At The Cross
Let's pray for Hope Community Church this week and Pastor Brian Shaw. Hope is in the process of building a new sanctuary less than two blocks north of Greenway on Reems and selling their current facility behind the Safeway on Reems and Grand. Let's pray for Pastor Brian and the board at Hope as they take this big step of faith.

Let's also pray that God will pour out His Spirit on Future Quest so that kids will have a powerful encounter with God...

And let's also pray that God will provide the resources we need for our children's ministry...

Take a minute and pray right now...
This Coming Sunday, May 9, 2010

Mom and Son
Jesus said we need to be like a little child to enter into the Kingdom of God. But there is a difference between being "like a child" and being "childish". It is a proven fact that the vast majority of decisions to follow Christ begin prior to age 18. What is it about this age group that is so interesting to God? What do we need to do to become "like a child" in the way Jesus meant? This Sunday is "Family Day" where we celebrate Mother and family. The message and music will be shorter so we can all enjoy a potluck and games in the park. Come on out and experience Family Day...See ya Sunday.

A Word of Encouragement

Psalm 33:20 - 21 (NKJV)
Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name.

The one and only true God is stunningly faith and reflecting on this truth can be vital to do when the chips are down. Think about how consistently the sun rises and sets, the gravitational constant keeps us all on the surface of the planet, the rain falls and the stars shine. God set it all up to stay functioning and in order. He can be trusted to care about our lives too. He is our help. He is our shield.

What often happens is that we focus our thinking on how badly we've been treated or how unfair our situation has become or, worse, how we've given so much and everyone else just doesn't notice. This sort of victim-hood leads to deeper and deeper self-absorption. The cure is for our hearts to reflect deeply (this is what meditation is) on the things we can see around us that demonstrate God's constancy and care for creation. Since He cares enough to have created a system that nourishes the greatest to the smallest of creatures, surely we can trust Him with our own situation. At this point we have to make a choice of faith to be thankful to Him for His character, even during the most difficult times. We can find something to thank God for but we must search this out especially when times are tough. When we do, we find that our chins lift a little higher because the Lord is the "lifter of our heads".
Future Quest

There is no way we can communicate how much of an eternal impact Future Quest impact can have on kids. With prayer and fasting beforehand, we are asking God to move in a powerful way during these two days. Dynamic speakers, practical workshops, powerful worship music and exciting concerts all combine to soften hearts to the word of God. We have seen young people radically changed by this event in California and look forward to what God wants to do here. Join us on June 28 and 29 - and even if you can't be here, you can support Future Quest in prayer and by donating a $25 gift through the Future Quest registration page. To make our budget we need 200 $25 dollar gifts.
Children's Ministry

Our Children's Ministry is about giving kids the skills and understanding needed to be true disciples of Jesus. We are committed to seeing children able to communicate clearly what following Jesus really means. We want to teach children what it means to worship, to love reading and learning about the Bible and how to serve others. Our goal is to develop our Children's Ministry into a full-fledged children's church (the church within the church) by October 3rd.

NEEDED: a new trailer, projection screen, projector, laptop computer, speakers and cables, basic PA system. If you can help, let us know.

Youth Ministry

The youth group leaders are developing an interactive web page for the youth group that will be attached to the 146church website. This interactive page is one more step in developing our youth ministry toward greater impact with kids in our city.

Signing Off

Recently, in my personal life, we've had some challenges financially - adjusting to not having the teaching income has been interesting. But through this experience God is teaching us "do not be anxious for anything..." It's been a challenging lesson to learn but God has provided. What we've discovered is that the cure for being anxious is to be grateful. As soon as I spend a few minutes really contemplating what God has done and is doing around me my own challenges seem so much easier to bear. I encourage you to do the same thing.
