Praying At The Cross
Let's pray this week for Westgate Community Friends Church and Pastor Chris Wagner. Westgate Friends church is similar to FourteenSix in their expository preaching style. They teach salvation by faith alone, in Christ alone so we are family. Pray that the Lord will inspire Chris as he prepares to teach the word. Pray that their elder board will make wise decisions as they consider a facility purchase. Take a minute and pray right now...

Vision

Vision
On Sunday, May 9th, we celebrate "Family Day" at FourteenSix. We will still have morning worship songs and a message but everything will be shorter to give us more time for fun and fellowship in the park with our kids. We're doing this to help integrate our children's ministry into the rest of our time together. Come on out on May 9th - it'll be a lot of fun.
This Coming Sunday, May 1, 2010

Message Series
The history of the Bible is the history of individual people from every walk of life: slaves, common workers & princes. The good, the bad and yes...the ugly too. This tells us that God is as willing to work through the common person as He is willing to work through the important and the learned. God has chosen each of us and if we cooperate with His call, mighty things can be done for our King. This is true of us even though we might not be influential or history changing people. Come and discover what it means to be "chosen" as we study Mark 3: 7 - 21....See ya Sunday.

A Word of Encouragement

2 Timothy 3: 16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

The word "inspiration" used here literally means "God breathed." Paul is not telling us that writers over the years had good "religious inspirations" and wrote them down. Instead, Paul is telling us that God literally breathed into people His truth like a flute player breathes into the instrument to produce the sound. In addition, this word also tells us that God didn't just give some people His philosophy on life and then left town. The same powerful, dynamic, creative energy God put into the writing of His word remains there today. To understand what this means, think again about music. Music can still emotionally speak to us hundreds of years after the composer who wrote a melody has died. The "power" of the music remains in the composition and can still be useful to stir us to action or tears. In a similar way, God has breathed into the words of the Bible a composition that can transform the soul, a melody so beautiful no symphony ever dreamed of could come close. The power of this melody will never diminish, never grow old in the hearing and can always transform us - if we are willing to truly hear it.
Future Quest

Please continue to pray for our advertising team as we begin meeting with area youth and senior pastors to spread the word about Future Quest. By the way, this conference also features practical workshops designed to give kids inspiration, encouragement and practical tools they can use to strengthen their faith. We plan workshops on many topics including "How to talk to your Mormon friends", "Going deep" and "Evolution vs. Creation".
Thank You

Thank you Lexy French for doing all of the research required to contact churches about Future Quest. In addition to all her research work, Lexy agreed to be our submission person for our advertising program. Thanks Lexy.

I love music. I spent some years teaching music and I've been playing various instruments since I was 9 years old. You might think that music would get old after a while but it doesn't. There is something about it that can soften my heart when I'm cranky or motivate my attention. It has a power that is difficult to describe. So it is also with knowing the Lord and seeking Him in His word. When we think deeply about a particular passage from the Bible it can be like listening to a particular song. When I'm in need of quiet I don't listen to Wagner - instead I listen to Vivaldi or something similar. We can find passages from the Bible to meditate on in a similar way - Psalm 103 when we're feeling lonely or Isaiah 55 when we need to feel inspired. The melodies we need to hear are in His word - we just have to tune in and listen.
