Praying At The Cross
Calvary Chapel Surprise recently took over the shopping center across from our church office. Pastor Todd told me that taking possession of the center caused them to add a huge number of new people almost immediately. Calvary is making a great impact for the truth of Jesus in our community. Let's pray that God will richly bless Pastor Todd as he studies to teach the word and that God will continue to draw people to Himself through Calvary's ministry. Take a minute and pray for Calvary Chapel of Surprise right now...

Vision

Vision
"He who is friendly, has friends". Let's make a huge effort to greet new people to FourteenSix and genuinely seek to get to know them. When people feel welcome and wanted they are less distracted in hearing the message and power of God's word on a Sunday morning. Take a minute to ask people where they are from, what their occupation is and what brought them to FourteenSix. Taking just a few moments of your time to ask these simple questions can make all the difference when a person is looking to find the Lord among us.

Sunset Cross

The world is overwhelmed with advertisements designed to stoke our need for purpose and validation in life. Car ads tell us that owning the right status symbol will make us feel complete. Self-help gurus promise us completeness if we follow their programs. Everywhere we see television shows and movies showing characters who find value in chasing bad guys or purpose in saving the persecuted race or completeness in a perfect romance. We have a deep seated need to find our real purpose for living, like finding the key to a lock or a missing puzzle piece. It's not enough to say "Jesus is the answer" - we need to understand this truth in the context of our individual reality. Come on out this Sunday as we begin a new "mini-series" from the book of Mark called "Getting Real." We start with Mark 2: 13 - 17 with a message called "A Real Calling - Real change for the better in your life." See ya Sunday.

Coming up....

Real action for finding purpose in your life.
A Word of Encouragement

Leviticus 6:5b (NKJV)
He shall restore its full value, add one-fifth more to it, and give it to whomever it belongs, on the day of his trespass offering.

Whenever my actions or thoughts do not accurately reflect who God is, I betray the purpose for which I was created. This is the definition of sin but God is merciful to me. God paid the price of my betrayals with the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. By putting all my hope and trust in Jesus, His sacrifice is "imputed" to me and I am made right before God. But God is not only merciful, He is also just. While my sins may not be counted against me, this verse tells me that God expects me to make things right when I come to Him for forgiveness. If I am guilty of stealing a person's car, I can ask for forgiveness - but I can't keep driving the stolen car. I've got to give the car back and make things right. It is so important in our Christian walk to never take our forgiveness for granted. We need to make things right wherever possible and the principle is that we should "add on-fifth more to it". If I have wronged someone I need to go beyond just saying "I'm sorry" and see to it that the person who I wronged feels fully repaid. This keeps grievances, unforgiveness, bitterness and other unhealthy infections from spreading in our relationships.
Thank You

Denny Waltmon has graciously accepted the task of putting out the church signs every Saturday and picking them back up again on Sunday after church. This important task helps people find the church, something especially important after a big outreach. It is an important ministry and we are grateful to Denny for stepping up. Thanks Denny.

Signing Off

Mass market mailers - been there. Clever themed events - done that. Paul taught us: "I am all things to all men that I might win some." We are not ashamed of our efforts to reach into the unchurched part of our community with the good news of Jesus and we're not going to stop any time soon either. If putting a free hot dog in someone's tummy is going to get them to stop long enough to introduce our church where they can hear about Jesus - then let's cook. If all the effort to play a few songs in the park is what it takes to grab someone's attention - then let's rock on. We are called to go and make disciples, so I look forward to seeing all of you this Saturday in the park.
