Commitment Class

If you're thinking of making FourteenSix your church home or you've already decided FourteenSix is your church home, then you should come to our "no commitment required, commitment class" J We call it a "commitment" class because it is designed to let you know all about what we believe and teach, our vision and direction, allows you a chance to get to know our Pastors and lets you ask questions - so that you can make an informed choice about making FourteenSix your church home. Meet at the church office at 6 p.m. (15535 N Reems Rd, Ste 125-03, next door to the CVS on the corner of Reems and Greenway) and bring $5 for pizza. This is a class for adults and should go until about 8:30 p.m. See ya' there....

Prayer Corner

This week we would like to pray for Kingdom in the Valley Christian Church, Pastor Reginald Steele and his wife Kelly. Kingdom in the Valley has a huge conference coming up Feb 17 and we would like to pray that God will make a difference in the lives of those who come. Take a minute and pray right now....
This Coming Sunday, January 31, 2010
Stacks of cash"Money is the root of all evil." Boy do we misunderstand this verse. It doesn't mean all evil can be traced back to money. Looking at the original language it would be better translated "Money is the root of all sorts of evil." The truth is, money is a necessary evil in this culture. God is aware of this and put more than 800 scriptures into the Bible that deal with money and possessions. If we learn to apply His wisdom into how we deal with money, we can experience His peace concerning our pocketbooks. This is a very important message and this coming Sunday, you won't want to miss "On the Edge of Peace: God's revolutionary wisdom for financial peace." See ya Sunday.

A Word of Encouragement
Wise Men
 Matthew 2: 1 (NKJV)
"...behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?"

There has been endless speculation about these "wise" men. What I find interesting is that they were called "wise men" in the first place. Why? Were they somehow special? Is this a title of some kind? So far as I can see, this is not a title but a description of what they were like. It seems that they were counted wise because of what they did. Now wisdom is not just knowledge. Wisdom is the practical application of knowledge. In other words, it's not just knowing something, it's taking what you know and doing something about it. These men had studied the scriptures (either as left over Jews from the Babylonian exile or else God fearing men who were aware of the Jewish scriptures) and their studies led them to know what the scribes also knew - that Messiah was to be born at about this time. But the scribes didn't do anything about their knowledge, even though the town of Bethlehem is just a few miles from Jerusalem. The wise men, however, not only studied God's word, they traveled a great distance to act on what they had found in the scriptures. We need to do the same thing if we want to be wise. So often we hear a great, inspiring message from the Bible but we don't make any changes in our hearts or actions. We too often neglect reading and studying the Bible but even worse, when we do read it, we don't concern ourselves with how to apply it into our lives. When we apply what we learn into practical action we also can be "wise men".

A special thank you goes out to Ashley Bonner for taking over producing our E letter and our Sunday video announcements. It's exciting to see people get involved. Thanks Ashley.
Vision

Binoculars

Our vision is to become a church that demonstrates all of the good things we read about the 7 churches in Revelation chapter 2 and 3 and avoids all the bad. Part of this effort is be involved in meeting practical needs as a means of sharing the good news that Jesus died and rose again to save us from our sins. We plan to have all sorts of outreaches this year - everything from free concerts to bottled water give-a-ways and you can be part of it.

Sometimes our success at something doesn't come in one big package. Often we can only see good results, tiny bit by tiny bit, over a long period of time. It's much like going to the gym. If I give up after just a few workouts, I will not achieve anything over time. I can't get into Arnold shape unless I'm willing to concern myself with micro changes in diet and exercise for a macro amount of time. So it is with applying what I learn from the Bible. I've often felt like my resolve to change a habit or commitment just crumbles with a failure. This is, in large part, due to me trying to accomplish things "in my own strength". The key is to rely on His strength and that requires consistently returning to Him in prayer asking Him for the power in my inner person to carry on. As I consistently, daily, even hourly, seek His strength to continue being obedient to Him in some area of my life, micro changes will occur. I may not see them at first. I may only see limited results even over a period of time - but if I relentlessly press forward, determined to lean on His strength and choose obedience - I will get into Arnold shape (spiritually speaking). "Let us continue on, spurring one another on toward faith and good works...."
