Prayer Corner
New
Beginnings is a small church plant meeting up off 163rd and Grand.
They have about 25 or 30 folks on a Sunday but lots of vision and community
outreach ideas. Pastor Robert took the lead on a showing of a Christian film to
area pastors recently and has a heart for youth. Let's pray that God will bless
their efforts to reach out to the community in North Surprise. Take a minute
and pray right now....

This Coming Sunday, December 13, 2009

We say that
the "church" is composed of all those who follow Jesus, not just one particular
gathering. So, if we are the church, what kind of church are we? As we gather
at FourteenSix, what kind of gathering should we be building in His name? If
Jesus were to address us as He did to the 7 churches in Revelation 2 and 3,
what kind of report card would we get? Come on out as we continue our study of
the 7 churches as we look at the church at Pergamum. See ya Sunday.
-
Application
this week: Commit to praying for God to reveal what He "has
against us" that we might repent and become the church He wants us to be.
Coming up.... December 13 -
Revelation Ch. 2 (part 3: Pergamum) - "To the angel of the Church of Surprise write..." December 20 - Revelation Ch. 2 (part 4: Thyatira) - "To the angel of
the Church of Surprise write..."
-
December 27 -
Revelation Ch. 3 (part 5: Sardis) - "To the angle of the Church of Surprise write..."

A Word of Encouragement

Judges 2: 18 (niv)
Whenever the Lord raised
up a judge for them, He was with the judge and saved them out of the hands of
their enemies as long as the judge lived; for the Lord had compassion on them
as they groaned under those who oppressed and afflicted them.
Over and over, in the Book of Judges, we read how the
people were lured away into worshipping other gods so that the true God allowed
difficulties to come their way as a means of bringing them back to their
senses. What I find encouraging is that even as much as the children of Israel
rebelled and fell into sin, God continued to have compassion on them. God
doesn't want to see us under affliction or oppression. So often we put ourselves under affliction: We darn well
know better than to lie or cheat or let our emotions rule us - but the lure of
a self-centered ambition causes damage in our lives, our relationships
disintegrate and we find ourselves "afflicted". But God will have compassion on
us if we cry out to Him. If we're sincerely willing to turn around and walk
God's way (repentance) God is faithful to have compassion on us. He guarantees
it.

Thank You

Thank you to
Amy Weller for taking the initiative to clean and sanitize the benches at
Church this last weekend. No one asked Amy to do this, she just saw the need
and did something about it. This is the kind of volunteerism that makes a
church great. Thanks for being such a witness to us all Amy.

Vision
Part of
reaching any culture is learning to communicate in a way that people will
appreciate. If I'm trying to use ancient Japanese drama to interest American's
in the gospel, I'm probably using the wrong means (nothing against Japanese
dramas). In our culture, sports is an obsession - so we've decided to sponsor
the creation of a FourteenSix men's softball team. We hope to play against
other Christian teams but we're using the team as a means of reaching out to
men who might not otherwise be involved with church. Mike Foster is our team
organizer and captain - if you know of an unchurched guy who would love to play
softball, let Mike know.
Don't forget - We're trying to get the word out about
FourteenSix and I need your help. Will you set aside just $37.50 each week for
4 weeks, put it in an envelope marked "invitations" and put it in the offering
basket? If I can find 40 people to do this, we will raise most of the money we
need to send out our next set of 30,000 invitations to our church. Email me today at pat@fourteensix.com
and let me know I can count on you for the next 4 Sundays.
