Prayer Corner
Please pray for Ernest
Finklea III (son of Ernest, our dear friend) and his family who recently became
full time missionaries to Israel.
The Finklea's have a condo in Jerusalem
now, are learning Hebrew and developing a new work. Pray that God will bless
their efforts to secure the support of a large church here in the States that
has expressed interest in helping them. Pray that God will open doors for them
to share the gospel and open doors for them in terms of finding a meeting place
for their new work. Take a minute and pray right now....

This Coming Sunday, October 25, 2009

"There
is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still" (Corrie Ten Boom).
Prayer is enormously powerful - but what makes it powerful is not the form or
some sort of magical recipe. Prayer is communicating from my heart to the heart
of God - it's not about getting what I want but about lining up my heart with
God's heart. God is invested in me, He's not going to let me down and I don't
need to try and manipulate Him into doing things my way. Prayer is powerful and
while God can and often does give us what we desire as a result of prayer, the
power of prayer is in connecting. Come on out this Sunday as we study
Colossians 4:2-4 with a message called Prayer Power. See ya Sunday....
Coming up....
- November 1 - Colossians 4:5-6 "Salty Speech" DON'T FORGET THIS IS THE 1ST SUNDAY AT KINGSWOOD ELEMENTARY
- November 8 - Colossians 4:7-14 "Real History"

A Word of Encouragement
"Our soul waits for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we
have trusted in His holy name." Psalm 33:20-21 (NKJV)
It can be hard to wait for
the Lord, especially when everything seems so out of control. We need to reflect
in our thinking on how faithful God really is. This is vital to do when the
chips are down. Think about how consistently the sun rises and sets, the
gravitational constant keeps us all on the surface of the planet, the rain
falls and the stars shine. God set it all up to stay functioning and in order.
He can be trusted to care about our lives too. He is our help. He is our
shield.
What often happens is that
we focus our thinking on how badly we've been treated or how unfair our
situation has become or, worse, how we've given so much and everyone else just
doesn't notice. This sort of victim-hood leads to deeper and deeper
self-absorption. The cure is for our hearts to rejoice in Him, to trust in Him.
We have to make a choice of faith to be thankful, even during the most
difficult times. We can find something to thank God for and we must search this
out especially when times are tough. When we do, we find that our chins lift a
little higher because the Lord is the "lifter of our heads".

Vision
The prophet Moses had a
tough time keeping the children of Israel focused on a long-term goal
- getting to the Promised Land. There was a fair bit of frustration wondering
when it was going to happen. At FourteenSix we've got a similar challenge -
keeping the vision for Youth Venture and other exciting things in front of
people but recognizing that getting to the Promised Land is going to take time.
One step along the way is going to be sending out 30,000 invitations to the
church in January. To do this we've got to raise some funds - and we're putting
together a gift-wrapping booth to help raise these funds in addition to our
challenge for folks to collect loose change (the Change Challenge). Pray about
being part of manning the gift-wrapping booth and help us take another step
toward the Promised Land.
