Prayer Corner

Please pray for Pastor Brian Shaw, Senior Pastor at Hope Community Church of the Nazarene here in Surprise, along with his family. Please pray that God would cover him and his family with comfort this day. Also please pray for their exciting news concerning growth and building on a plot of land. Building takes time and funds so we want to pray that God will bless their efforts to continue to be a blessing in our town as they prepare to build. Take a minute and pray right now....
This Coming Sunday, September 13, 2009

Colossians teaches us to take off the old man and put on the new. But what are the practical ways we put on the new man? We've learned that the new man is "renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who create him" so obviously we've got to continually learn more about how to put on His image. This Sunday we're going to look at Colossians 3:12-14 with a message titled "Godly Fashion Sense" to understand a little more what it means to put on the new man. See ya Sunday....

Coming up....

  • September 20 - Colossians 3:15-17 "In All You Do"
  • September 27 - Colossians 3:18-22 "Family Portrait"
A Word of Encouragement

Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You. Jeremiah 32:17 (NKJV)

Sometimes life can come at us fast, hard and ugly. It seems like our problems surround us on every side and we can't see a way out. It is at times like these that we need to remember who we believe in and what that should mean.

The God of the Bible said "let there be light" and light energy exploded across the emptiness of space and time. He formed that energy, by His own will, into all the elements of the universe, formed it into stars and galaxies and planets and people. He knew every detail, down to the tiniest part of an atom and anyone who chances to look can see that only He could have made it. Can anyone really explain why DNA is optically pure, the odds of which are 1 times 10 to the 40,000th power - a number so huge you could not count it in 30 billion years? So, if God can make our DNA, surely He can guide us through our problems. We've just got to get hold of who we work for and then everything that troubles us just looks too silly to worry about in comparison.

Jump Start Your Day
Need a spiritual jump start? The best way to do that is to open your Bible and start reading. I know, it's the last thing you feel like doing when you're spiritually "down," but just the act of taking in God's Word is probably the best "chicken soup" for the soul there is.

Start off by praying the prayer David prayed - "Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law" (Psalm 119:18). - and then begin anywhere. Try reading a psalm of thanksgiving and praise, like Psalm 136. Then make your own psalm of praise and thanksgiving, remembering all the things that God has done in your life. Be liberal with your praise; He deserves even more than you can think of to say.

If you still need some more motivation and you have a few extra minutes and some privacy, turn down the lights and close your eyes while listening to your favorite worship CD. Don't try to do anything; just allow the words to speak for you, quietly agreeing with them in your heart.

A few minutes spent aligning your heart with God's can save you many more later in the day. It's worth the time!

Thank you Bonnie Halley for aggressively beginning our search for a permanent facility to lease. We all know this could be a LONG process but Bonnie has already searched out and shown us a number of properties. We are very encouraged that as the church grows we will be able to find the place God has for us to lease. Thank you for all your hard work.
Operation New Neighbor

We've sent out another batch of invitations directed at new address changes in the city of Surprise. We are in need of some more volunteers to hand address envelopes for this project. If you would like to help with this ministry, please contact me at: Tim@fourteensix.com

Thanks,

Operation Mailer
Now that we have an extra four months to get ready for the next mailer we're going to launch some new fundraisers. We're also going to set our sights a little higher and try to send out 30,000 invitations to our church in January. Keep this in prayer.

Vision

It's the 21st century and we need to be up to date with technology. It is our vision to offer our messages both as pod-casts and eventually with live streaming on a Sunday morning. To this end, Jamie the amazing-techno-genius-worship Pastor extraordinaire is working on a complete website re-design that will include pod-casts (and be fully capable of video streaming once we are able to purchase a video camera and tri-pod). Stay tuned: the new website should be up and exciting by September 20th.

I can get awfully short sighted sometimes. I imagine you can too. But when I really look at who God is, what He has done in creation, what He has done in my life - it's like taking a big, deep breath. When I realize that so many things in my life have "worked out", so many worries have "slipped away" and so many "fortunate incidents" have come my way that it can't be coincidence - the sum of these things, these "lucky breaks" over the years, is nothing short of the hand of my God guiding and directing me through the maze of this life. I encourage you to remember that, especially when you're facing new anxieties, and then remember that God is constant, blazing, true and on your side. Trust in Him and He will get ya' through.

"Over and out"...
