Prayer Corner
Please pray Chris Constant as she recovers from shoulder surgery. Chris has been with us from day one at FourteenSix and we are so blessed she is a part of our family. Surgery is never any fun so pray that God will bless the healing process for her and bless her efforts to get back into the swing of things. Take a minute and pray right now...
This Coming Sunday, September 6, 2009

Making any sort of change requires deliberate actions. But knowing which actions to take can be the difference between success and failure. Since God has already guaranteed our eternal life with Him in heaven, we should "put off the old man and put on the new". We need to know what deliberate, practical steps to take to make this happen. As we study Colossians 3:5-11 we're going to see how. See ya Sunday....

Coming up....

  • September 13 - Colossians 3:12-14 "Godly Fashion Sense"
  • September 20 - Colossians 3:15-17 "In All You Do"
A Word of Encouragement

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33 NIV

I like the scene in "The Princess Bride" where Princess Buttercup says to Wesley "You mock my pain" and he responds "Life is pain Princess. Anyone who says differently is selling something". How true! Too often we're under the false impression that life is supposed to be peaches without pits and roses without thorns. Jesus, however, was much more real and what He promises is that by following Him we can overcome difficulties with dignity and experience real victory since He has already overcome the world. Follow Jesus and you will find peace - no matter what the storm.

Continual Worship
How are you worshiping God right now? Yes, I mean at this very moment. What are you doing? For many, this is an unusual question because we tend to think of worship as something we do when we set aside a special time to devote ourselves to singing worship songs, praying, and a doing a few other godly things. Usually this happens once a week - at church.

But our common use of the word "worship" is too limited. We need to expand our thinking about worship and understand that singing worship songs, praying, reading and studying God's Word, and sharing time in fellowship with other believers are all just forms of worship. But there are many other ways to worship God as well. Whenever we affirm God's authority in our lives, acknowledge His existence, or proclaim His sovereignty over our world, we are worshiping Him. That means that our good deeds, proper motivations, pure thoughts, and humble acts of service are all forms of worshiping God.

Looking at worship in this light leads to an attitude that we can continually worship God - wherever we are and whatever we are doing. So, how are you worshiping God right now?

Thank You

Thank you, Nichole Juillet, for organizing our "Won by One" campaign, and our meal team ministers in getting food to our family members that have undergone surgery. And, thank you to those cooking meals.

It's really great when people sacrifice time and effort, even when they are so busy, to help get things done. Thank you so much.

Operation New Neighbor

We've slowed down a little with the invitations to new neighbors due to budget constraints but we're moving forward. If you would like to help with this ministry, please contact me at: Tim@fourteensix.com

Thanks,
Tim Juillet

We've decided to change the date of our next mailer outreach. This will give us some more time to finish fund raising and prepare for the series and events. We'll keep you informed.

Vision

People become followers of Jesus because they are brought to Him through a relationship. Great preaching is necessary, good books are important but connecting with people face to face is used by the Holy Spirit to bring people to Him. Why? Because God is a relational God and He is going to use relationships to begin a relationship with Himself. We need to be willing and ready to connect with people, face to face, working hand in hand with the Holy Spirit as He works to draw people into deeper relationship with Him. Pray that God opens our eyes to these sort of "high touch" opportunities.

Consistency is the key to working out at the gym. If I only work out once I'm not going to see the positive results I want and, in fact, I can do more harm than good. A hard workout can damage my muscles rather than build them but if I consistently workout with repetition and a good diet I can see results. It's the same sort of thing we need to do in our Christian walk: sporadic workouts at a retreat or after a tough time in life may not bring the positive results we want. Instead, God wants us to consistently, over time, follow Him. It's sort of like walking, isn't it? A single step doesn't get you anywhere, you've got to take a second step - but then you've got to repeat these simple movements over and over before you get anywhere. So hang in there.

"Over and out"...
