Prayer Corner

Please pray for FourteenSix. Our budget is so tight you could easily bounce a quarter off of it all the way to the moon. But we believe God is challenging us to push forward. We believe He wants us to continue an aggressive outreach into this community. In addition, we believe God is calling us (Me and Melissa) to only work part-time at Shadow Ridge High School and we further believe God is behind our decision to lease an office space. But everything I've just described requires a plain financial miracle so only God can pull this off. With that in mind, we very seriously need your prayers that God will confirm these leadings with the resources necessary to make them happen. Please take a minute and pray for us right now....
This Coming Sunday, August 16, 2009

There are tens of thousands of religions in the world but Jesus didn't offer a new moral code or a new set of rituals or beliefs. Instead, He offered Himself. "Come to me, all of you that are weary and heavy burdened. I will give you rest." We often forget that Jesus wants us to know Him personally and intimately. We can be quick to substitute routine for relationship. Come on out this weekend as we continue our study of the book of Colossians with a message called "Relationship vs. Religion". See ya Sunday....
A Word of Encouragement

Psalm 40:1 (NKJV)

I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.

I recall a TV commercial where two men sit at a bench with laptop computers. One has the latest and fastest internet card but the other doesn't. In a few seconds the faster of the two happily gets up finished with his work while the other sits waiting - and two vultures descend on his shoulders. The point is clear - everything is about speed and if you don't have the fastest answer to your need then the buzzards are at your shoulder. This mindset is everywhere. Even this column is designed to be read in less than a minute - or I might lose your attention to something else. But God is NOT on my time-line nor does He do things according to my calendar. I've got to get it into my thinking that God has the entire universe to consider, not just my issue of the day. God does care about my needs, my fears, my gratitude and my grief too but I've got to be willing to wait patiently for Him to respond. So often we miss His encouragement in our hearts because we run off to some other stimulus when our prayers are not answered in a McDonald's minute. It's time for us to calm our racing minds and wait patiently for the Lord. He will incline to us and He will hear our cry but we have to settle down long enough to hear.

What's The Point Of Church?
Take a moment to answer this question: Why do you come to church each week? In other words, why do you go to the trouble of getting out of bed, getting yourself and your family ready, and heading out the door to church. Wouldn't it be far easier to sleep in and catch last week's message online or listen to a worship CD or even have a simple family devotional time?

Those are certainly good things and we should keep doing them. But what makes our weekly gatherings special? How are they different than seeking God on our own in the privacy and comfort of our homes? I believe one answer is in Hebrews 10:25: "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

By nature, we tend to drift away from God when we are complacent, which is what can happen when we don't have the encouragement and accountability that other believers can provide. We need that time each week to join together in our worship and to encourage one another as we lift up our God, reminding each other of God's greatness through prayer, song, study, and fellowship. We come together to do something that cannot be done by ourselves. That's what makes that time so special.

Thank You

Thank You Thank you Loway and Julie Shammas and Scott McAllister for taking the lead on our Wednesday night youth group. This team of dedicated volunteers plans to unwrap a 1st class incentive program for the kids, give solid, meaty teaching and provide plenty of servant evangelism opportunities for our kids. I'm sure this team is going to make a real difference in the discipleship of our youth. I am tremendously grateful for their willingness to serve. Thanks guys.

Operation New Neighbor

We had our first family show up on Sunday, August 2nd from our Welcome to the neighborhood letters that we have been sending out. It is exciting to begin seeing some fruit from this ministry. The family that came is very excited about the church, & did indeed just move into the Surprise area. Let's continue to pray that God's hand stays on these letters as new families continue to respond to our welcome letters and visit FourteenSix. If you would like to donate envelopes, computer paper, Non-profit stamps or pens to this ministry, your donations will be greatly appreciated. Please contact me at: Tim@fourteensix.com
Operation Mailer
Operation Mailer
WE NEED YOUR HELP - AND WE'RE NOT ASHAMED TO SAY WE NEED IT NOW.

If we can find just 20 people willing to donate $25 each Sunday for the next 4 weeks we will raise the rest of the funds needed to put out the next mailer. Or perhaps you're led by the Lord to donate a larger sum toward this need. Remember, Jesus taught in one of His parables about a ruler who ordered his servants to "compel them to come to the wedding feast". This mailer is your chance to participate directly in inviting people to the church to hear the teaching of God's word. Your help is critical. We need to raise $2,000 more by September 1st. If you can give above your regular giving and designate that amount separately in a giving envelope or through the pay-pal account here on this e-letter we can raise what we need and get the mailer out on time.

Our next mailer is scheduled to be called "Families on the Edge". We're working on integrating the message series with relevant activities each week but in the meantime, we need to raise $2,000 more for this outreach by September 1st.

If you can help, please use our PayPal account (see below) or contact the church office info@fourteensix.com.

Vision

Youth Venture will provide free pool tables, X-box games and other games at a safe, comfortable teen hangout. To be a member and get the free stuff each teen will agree to participate in three one-on-one mentoring sessions with a qualified Christian adult. This program has been stunningly successful in San Diego and we want to transplant it here - to do so requires us to put on a golf tournament next Spring. I've already contacted a local course to get some pricing ideas and we have a person already considering the position of project manager. However, we still need plenty of volunteers to make this golf tournament a reality because it is a rather large project. Please begin praying for this event and considering how you may become part of it yourself and look for more information on this event in the coming weeks.

If you read one chapter in the New Testament and three chapters in the Old Testament every day, you will read the Bible cover to cover in ten months. If you miss a day, or two or even a week, just start over where you left off. On one of my three and one reading adventures, due to starts and stops, it took just under 3 years to read the Bible from one end to the other - but I did read it all. So many people who call themselves believers have never actually read the entire Bible. There are 1,189 chapters and, as the wise man said, "The journey of a thousand miles (or 1,189 chapters) begins with the first step." Get yourself two index cards, mark the date and the chapters read and use the cards as bookmarks (New Testament and Old Testament). Get started today - the Bible is a feast but you've got to take the first bite.

"Over and out"....

Sincerely,
Pastor Pat
