Prayer Corner
Calvary Chapel of Surprise is moving into their
new facility (just across the street from our church offices, in fact). It
looks like they've got a lot of exciting things going on over there and a first
rate facility. Calvary preaches Jesus and we want to pray that God's favor will
be upon their move, that God will richly bless their outreach in Surprise and
that they will continue to preach His word without compromise. Take a minute
and pray for Calvary Chapel of Surprise right now....

This Coming Sunday, July 26, 2009
We live in the information age. My desktop
computer is more powerful than the computers aboard Apollo 11 that took men to
the moon. I don't need to collect a library to research for a message, I can
download from the world's greatest resources with the click of a button. With
all this information there is a danger, not just of being cheated, but of
wasting my time on empty words. The basic principles of this world can blind me
to what is really important and my effectiveness and passion for the Kingdom of
God can be drowned in a sea of data if I'm not careful. Jesus is the voice of
true wisdom and through Him I can "Beware
the empty words". Come on
out this Sunday, August 2nd to find out more.See ya Sunday....
Coming up....
- August 9 - Colossians 2: 11 - 15
"Relationship vs. Religion"
-
August 16 - Colossians 2: 16 - 23
"Relationship vs. Regulations"

A Word of Encouragement
Hebrews 2: 13 - 14 (NKJV)
For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the
word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who
are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses
exercised to discern both good and evil.
Too often people decide to
"become Christians" but only slowly get past a basic understanding of being out
of line with God but forgiven by faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus.
In order to be a follower of Jesus I have to be GROWING. Our bodies grow when
we consume food, digest food and then convert that digested material into
energy that our cells use to make us live and move and breath. In the same way,
our spiritual food is the Bible but while certainly important, it's not enough
to just know more about the Bible. That would be like eating but not digesting
your food. Instead, we've got break down the word into useable pieces. But this
is still not enough - we've got to convert these pieces into energy - and then
we MUST use that energy for action. If we don't, we're not growing, we're just
existing. So it is that we need to put what we learn from the Bible into
practice in our daily lives. Anything less than action is just wasting
spiritual calories that God wants us to use to run the race. Our church
fellowship exists to help us all put what we learn into real practice so keep
connected and keep growing. |

WorshipVibes
Jamie has started a blog called "WorshipVibes." The blog generally covers the topic of worship and is updated two to three times each week with devotionals, discussions, and random topics. It's also a good place to find links to some other worship resources and blogs on the web.
You can read it at http://www.worshipvibes.com or subscribe to the rss feed directly at http://worshipvibes.wordpress.com/feed/ or even follow the blog on Twitter at @worshipvibes.
Jamie will also be providing a short devotional here each week as well. Look for it beginning in next week's newsletter.

Thank You
Mike and Samantha Foster were so kind as to lend
me their truck while Mike is deployed. This is fantastic for me since my van's
air conditioner doesn't work (neither do the windows except for the passenger
side) - so driving it during the Phoenix summer was getting a bit, shall we
say, sticky. So, thank you so much to Mike and Samantha for their generosity.

Operation New Neighbor
Another 322
letters went into the mail this week so we're over 700 total. Please keep this
outreach in your prayers since it is God who draws people to the Son. Be
friendly and excited to meet new visitors as they respond to our invitations.

Operation Mailer
Our next mailer is scheduled to be called
"Families on the Edge". We're working on integrating the message series with
relevant activities each week but in the meantime, we need to raise $5,000 for
this outreach by September 1.
If you
can help, please use our PayPal account (see below) or contact the church office

Vision
Youth and
children are of particular importance to the vision of discipleship God has
given us here at FourteenSix. For us it's not about keeping kids occupied,
babysat, free from boredom, or otherwise shuffled aside. We believe in making
disciples (no age limit described in the Great Commission) so we're focused on
developing our youth and children's outreach ideas. This is an on going
development and we're excited to continue improving so on Saturday August 8
, at 5:30 p.m. we're hosting a pool party at Tom and Athena's house to
re-launch our Wednesday night youth group. We're going to roll out our
incentive program for everything from Bible reading to participating in street
evangelism and also lay out for the kids what our Wednesday night outreach is
going to look like. Anyone ages 12 - 20 who is interested is invited.
