Prayer Corner
"The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective"....FourteenSix is continuing to grow but in this time of growth we need prayer more than ever. Pray that God will draw people to Himself through our efforts, pray that God will connect people in our small groups so they flourish, pray for finances, pray for our vision and pray that God will lead us to make good decisions that will ultimately allow us to be effective for His Kingdom in this city....take a moment and pray right now....

This Coming Sunday, July 12, 2009

The average person is going to witness 8,000 murders on television by the time they graduate from high school. Does this exposure harden us to the horror of murder? I believe it can. Our actions, that is, our works, can create a pathway for our minds that can have a great impact on our attitudes and actions. We need to learn what it means to become a "sanctified" people, and in order to do this we need to recognize what it means to "continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast." Come on out this week and learn more from a message called "Continue" Colossians 1: 19 - 23. See ya Sunday....

Coming up....
  • July 19 - Colossians 1: 24 - 29 "Hope of Glory"
  • July 26 - Colossians 2: 1 - 10 "Beware the Empty Words"

Revelation 3: 16 (NKJV)

So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.

Our efforts at being moral, being nice or being useful in the world do not put us right with God since we have all ignored God's ways and justified our actions in one way or another. God requires that we turn around from a self-directed life (this is called repentance) by admitting we've offended God in the first place and asking Him to forgive us. If we're serious about turning around from a self-directed life we'll show it by working at living a Jesus-directed life. So what does this scripture mean?

Truth is, there are plenty of people who say they are believers but their actions give them away or worse, whatever efforts they do make to serve God are inconsistent, half-hearted and filled with complaint and self-seeking. Churches are full of people eager for recognition but quick to complain, criticize, and quit whenever "serving" actually equals effort or sacrifice instead of fun and games. Jesus makes it clear that He wishes we would either get going or get lost, hot or cold - but half-hearted just makes Him sick. It's true that our works do not save us, but our works do show how serious we are if we say "I will follow Jesus." Let's pray, learn and help each other give our very best in God's service. After all, God gave His very best so we could be made right with Him.
Thank You

Thank You Thank you Melissa Marks and the other ladies on the GAB team (Girlfriend's Advisory Board) for starting up the Lady's Bible Study Breakfast. The girls have been in need of a great chance to build relationships and from what I hear, Saturday's breakfast was like a cool drink on a hot day. THANK YOU.

Vision

Teens

We've GROWN significantly in the last 6 months and it seems like God is planning to grow us a lot more in the next few months too. We need to be good managers of this growth. One of the things we've identified is a need for better internal signs. The city only allows us 4 street signs but when a new visitor comes up to our meeting place, how will they know where to go? We need to take our old street signs, tear off the old vinyl, strip off the old paint where needed, sand them down, re-paint them and put new vinyl on to make signs pointing to everything from kids classrooms to bathrooms. Kyle Sanford has taken charge of this important task and if you can help, let him know this weekend at church or contact him: Kyle@fourteensix.com

I remember well as a kid asking my friends if they "believed in God." I remember being mystified when those who said they believed went out and acted as if they did not. I just didn't get it. I was only 8 or 10 but even then I remember thinking "if you really believed, you wouldn't act like that...." But I had much to learn. I've come to discover that the Christian experience is a journey, sometimes a rocky journey and it must be from the heart - not just the lips. Our church exists to act as a support for that journey. Too often our churches become audiences instead of families. This journey can be full of questions, backtracking, stumbles and outright fears. We need to build a connectedness that supports us all because the goal isn't just to feel good about knowing we're going to heaven when we die - it's about bringing a little bit of heaven into the lives of every person we touch at every chance we get.

"Over and out"....
Sincerely,

Pastor Pat
