Prayer Corner
Future Quest. 2,000 teens, 6 general sessions,
dozens of workshops, outreach into the community - in short, a life-changing
experience for everyone involved. At last count we are taking 11 of our teens,
plus 5 or so chaperons. Please pray that God will pour out His Spirit on the
conference, on our trip, protect our journey and make a huge, eternal
difference in the attitudes and hearts of everyone who participates. You know
what I'm going to ask....take a moment and pray right now....

This Coming Sunday, June 21, 2009
Imagine a people filled with the knowledge of God's will, overflowing
with wisdom, who are mighty in integrity, filled with patience and joy, an
ability to deal graciously with difficult people and an exuberant attitude of
gratitude. Imagine how a people like this could affect their city and even the
world. This is what our God wants us to be. It's a process, a growth process,
but He has sworn that if we trust Him, He'll make us into this kind of people.
He has rescued us from the pointless programs and ineffective philosophies of
the world that never achieve anything of real consequence in changing the
hearts of people. Come on out and learn more as we study Colossians
1: 9 - 14 with a message called "Rescued".
See ya
Sunday....
Coming up....
-
June 28 - Colossians 1: 15 - 18 By Him
and For Him
-
July 5 - Colossians 1: 19 - 23 Continue
-
July 12 - Colossians 1: 24 - 29 Hope of
Glory

A Word of Encouragement
Jeremiah 2:29 (NiV)
Why do you bring charges against me? You have all rebelled
against me," declares the Lord.
The people of Israel at the
time Jeremiah wrote this were convinced of their own "goodness". "After all",
they reasoned, "we're the people of God".
It is the same today - many people I
meet are fully convinced of their own inherent goodness. They keep nice homes,
believe in equal rights, keep the speed limit (mostly), eat healthy and pay
their taxes so they figure God should be looking out for them. When things
don't go as well as they expect it should, they are tempted to blame God for
being unfair.
But look at verse 28 "Where then are the gods you have made
for yourselves? Let them come if they can save you when you are in trouble! For
you have as many gods as you have towns, O Judah." We don't think this applies to us, but it
does. Our entire culture is wrapped up in the god of SELF. Self-indulgence,
self-reliance, self-help and doing what satisfies my "self". Instead of living
in the realization that we were made by God and for God's purposes, many of us are
sold out to our own agenda, our own desires and our own plans.
According to
this thinking, God is supposed to be there to help US as if He is our servant,
seated in the sky to make everything peachy and pretty for us "nice" people.
But when the chips are down the god of self does not have the power to deal
with the serious troubles we will encounter in a world full of people who
pursue evil. So we need to make a decision to put God at the center of
our lives, not as an afterthought.

Thank You
Thank you to
the amazing, talented, tireless, wonderful, exciting, bold, compassionate
servants that put together and ran our rummage sale. This sale was critical
toward helping us purchase our Sunday school curriculums for the next year.
Your sacrifice of time, money, talent and SLEEP was an outstanding example of
servant-hood in action. THANK YOU.

Operation New Neighbor
Tim Juillet is leading our new program to reach
out to our new neighbors. Each month 600 - 1,000 people move into Surprise and
we are going to send them a letter inviting them to join us at FourteenSix.
This letter will have a hand-written address and 3 or 4 restaurant "meal
deals". We've already got a dedicated team willing to address these mailers but
I'm confident Tim is willing to put as many people on his team as are willing
to help.

Operation Mailer
Please
consider volunteering to join us at the concession stands at ASU to raise the
money we need for the next mailer. These games begin in August so start
considering it now. It can be a lot of fun but it is a lot of work, a long
drive and a 12 hour day. Still, last year we were able to raise everything we
needed for Harvest Fest and for our first mailer. Let me know if you're
interested by email: pat@fourteensix.com.
Our next mailer is scheduled for Mid to late August
(date TBA). If you can help with a direct donation, please contact our project
manager, Athena Bonner, at Athena@fourteensix.com.

Vision
We believe in making disciples from the earliest
age possible. Our Wednesday Nite Live Youth Group is being re-launched
(coinciding with the school year) and our vision is to make some radical
disciples out of our teens. We've already started with the most in-depth Bible
study we've ever attempted, we're planning once a quarter servant evangelism
outreaches that our teens will lead and our own Youth Conference. We need adult
mentors, taxi-drivers for the kids, snack providers (these are TEENS after all,
they EAT). Get involved - let me know if you're interested: pat@fourteensix.com

Signing Off
Let's all practice and pray for the power to be
a people who act and speak from a transformed heart versus acting a speaking
from a list of rules. God's agenda is that we become "the salt of the earth."
Salt is made of Sodium and Chloride - two poisons that combined with the right
POWER become a substance vital to life. Our actions and our words can be
poisons to those around us so we need to seek the power of God to combine these
things into the salt our world so desperately needs.
"Over and out"....
Sincerely,
Pastor Pat |
