Prayer Corner
Last Sunday we baptized 3 people - Shawn, Diana and Melissa. It is terribly important that all of us in the FourteenSix family and the larger family of God throughout the earth take in new believers so they don't feel alone. In addition, we need to lift them up in prayer asking God to strengthen them in their inner person to be able to choose God's direction for their lives. Remember, Matthew 13 tells us the story of the sower and the seed - let's pray that these new believers will grow deep roots. Take a moment and pray for them right now....
This Coming Sunday, June 14, 2009

It's easy to get depressed when you read the morning paper or watch the evening news. It's easy to think everything is hopeless and that is exactly what the enemy wants us to think. If he can convince us that trying to make a difference in this world is not doing anything he can convince us to quit trying at all. But Jesus said the gates of hell itself would not prevail against His church. The truth is that in the darkness the light shines that much brighter. We need to recognize we are part of an impenetrable kingdom spread out in terrible light and splendor across the spiritual world. We need to see our part and play it well. We're beginning a study of the book of Colossians this week where we begin with a message called "All over the world". See ya Sunday....

Coming up....
  • June 21 - Colossians 1:9-14 Rescued
  • June 28 - Colossians 1:15-18 Master and Maker
  • July 5 - Colossians 1:19-23 Reconciled
A Word of Encouragement
Hand Holding Candle
1 Thessalonians 4: 7 - 8 (NKJV)
For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. 8 Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.

The uncleanness he is talking about is sexual behavior that rebels against God's directions for sex. The Bible's teachings about modesty and sexual purity are often lampooned, cartooned and mocked. God's view is that sex should exist solely between a man and woman in a marriage but in the Bible this kind of sex is actually encouraged, uplifted in poetry, celebrated in song and seen as beautiful, exciting and mutually fulfilling. That doesn't sound like God is a kill-joy does it? The world, however, believes God's views are repressive and even bigoted. All we have to do is recite the statistics to see that God's ideas are the answer to 1.3 million abortions per year, 1.2 million births to single mothers, 1 in 4 active people getting an STD and a world-wide pandemic of the AIDS virus. But no matter how many statistics we quote or proofs we offer that abstinence and heterosexual sex only in a marriage is the safest and best option, people will defend their lifestyles no matter what because they simply want what they want when they want it. We need to remember that we were called to Holiness and recognize that people who reject God's ways are not rejecting our impassioned pleas to stop unwanted pregnancies and STD's - no, the bottom line is that they are rejecting God.
Thank You

Thank You Thank you Kyle Sanford, Steve Opgenorth and Jamie Brees for helping move our stuff and setting up our new office. We're almost completely up and running now. It's so exciting to have a place to work. Thanks guys.

Operation Mailer
Operation Mailer We're planning to begin a new outreach in July targeting people who just move into town called Operation New Neighbors. In addition, we plan to launch the Won by One invitation program in August - all of this leads to our next mass mailer which we're now planning to put into September (instead of August). Why are we doing this? We're using these activities to obey our Master's command to "Go and make disciples" and inviting people in to hear His message and His invitation to become a disciple we are actively "going". So these ideas are acts of obedience kids - let's get behind it.

Our next mailer is scheduled for Mid to late September (date TBA). If you can help with a direct donation, please contact our project manager, Athena Bonner, at Athena@fourteensix.com.

Vision

Writing a letter Nearly a 1,000 people a month move into Surprise. I wonder how many of these people are ready to hear that they can have a dynamic, growing and mutually satisfying relationship with God through following Jesus? It's our vision, beginning in July, to send hand addressed letters of invitation to Fourteensix to each of these new households every month. A hand addressed envelope is much more likely to be opened than our mass direct mailers, so this ministry is likely to be very effective. Our friend Tim Juillet has volunteered to coordinate a group of workers for this ministry - if you can help, either by addressing envelopes, stuffing them with our invitation letter, or help with the financial cost of the stamps, contact him at Tim@fourteensix.com.

Signing Off

Every time I start to think how small our work is in comparison to how big the job is I get discouraged. But every time I reflect on the tremendous changes and growth and healing I've seen in the lives of those who put their sold out trust into Jesus, that discouragement lifts. Satan is a cunning, ruthless enemy who wants us to feel defeated so our temptations to ignore God's ways and follow the world's headlong madness will be so much more appealing. Instead we need to remember, every single day, Philippians 4: 8 - 9 because thinking on these things, using this scripture to answer our temptations will lead to the peace of mind we crave.

"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true ... noble ... just ...  pure ... lovely ... of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy - meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you."

"Over and out"....
Sincerely,

Pastor Pat
