What's Happening in Wine Country
Bleeding hearts
This year it seems like spring will go on forever!  Most years we
typically have 80 deg. days in May and very little rain.  This year it has been so cool that asparagus harvest was delayed by a couple of weeks and cherry harvest will also start about 10-15 days late.  Now is a great time to get your asparagus to make delicious spicy pickled asparagus.  In spite of the late start the Farmers Market was off to a roaring start with the smells of fresh bread enticing you into the booths.   Flowers love the rain and are going crazy.  Produce is still a little short but is starting to ripen.

Where to eat  in Prosser

Wine O Clock
Wine O' Clock
If you are coming to Prosser you will be pleasantly surprised that such a small town can have some of the most delightful eateries.  Great peach cobbler, international cuisines and much more.   Click here for a list of several of these great places to eat.

Amazing Prosser Businesses

Every year I try to stay a few days at Wine Country RV Materials 2Park.  I live only 50 miles away but it gets me away from the house and all the demands and distractions that come with home ownership.

Last week I called on many of our advertisers in Prosser while staying at the park.  Most small towns struggle to maintain the most basic businesses but Prosser has truly grown into a destination resort town.  After this visit I decided that each month I would talk about a few of the businesses that I visited.  Most months I dwell so heavily on the wineries that few of the other outstanding businesses in Prosser get their due attention.

Marilyn Dalstra's
Sewing Basket

One of the truly delightful stops was at the Sewing Basket and The Quilted Country Inn owned by Marilyn Dalstra.  In a small old house Marilyn has organized over 3500 bolts of beautiful material.  She ships out to Quilters all over the country.   Her B&B which sits on the Yakima River is packed with Quilter on retreat.  When you are in Prosser, this is a great place to see many amazing quilts.

Words of Wisdom from Brew Master Larry at Whitstran Brewery

Prosser is well known for its wineries but did you know that we also have two micro breweries.  If you need to cool off on one of our hot summer days there is nothing better than an ice cold beer.  Not only does Whistran Brewery have a wide selection of beers but it also has a great food menu to compliment their selection of tasty beers.   Read Brew Master Larrys advise to help out with our current gas issues.

Horse Heaven Brewery
Horse Heaven Hills Brewery

Horse Heaven Hills Brewery has flights for tasting their beers to allow you to select your favorite before you buy your pint.  You can sit and watch Brew Master Gary work his miracles as he turns grains, yeast and hops into some truly enjoyable beers.

On The Wine Front

I have to tell you, I am really glad that it was not the end of the world last week.  I still have a lot of wine to drink in my collection!!

Another Great Award Winning Wine of the Week from Prosser:

Thurston Wolfe 2008 Zephyr Ridge Primitivo, Washington

The argument rages on!!  Is it corks or screw caps?  Read this interesting article in the San Francisco Chronicle regarding the enviromental impact of the different closures.   We are accumulating enough votes to start making some conclusions but what is your opinion?  Vote here for corks or screw caps.
