Why Catholic?
Why Catholic? Witness - An Easter Vigil Faith

As a relatively new Catholic - I was received into the Church in 2003 - I am still in what I would describe as an Easter Vigil mood of being absolutely in awe of the Catholic faith. I am so impressed with what I view as the dignity and freedom that Catholicism affords to every person, and I want to continue to learn all I can about this faith. In addition, at times I find myself having to defend my decisGail Herefordion to become a Catholic to family members and others, and I want to have the tools and confidence to be able to explain why I chose to become a Catholic and what I believe and who I am as a Catholic. When I heard about the Why Catholic? process, I was immediately drawn to the word "why," because it expressed the study and inquiry I had been doing for a number of years, and it offered the opportunity to help me be a better witness to what I believe.

My Journey as a Catechist - A Reflection for Catechetical Sunday

Have you heard our faith described as a journey? It can be such a lovely image. My journey has been one of discovery. My role as a catechist began at St. Michael School six years ago as a kindergarten teacher. I came to St. Michael with many years of teaching experience;Maureen Rogg however, I had never taught religion. I knew little ones were expert at asking challenging questions. Would I be able to provide the correct answers? I soon came to understand that the role of a catechist was much deeper than I had expected.

Although I was a product of 12 years of Catholic education, I knew I did not know my faith very well. I did not understand who we were as a people, what we believed, and what we were called to do. I came of age in the Vatican II years, a time of great change and challenge. More...

Maureen Rogg is a kindergarten teacher at St. Michael School in Louisville. She just earned her master catechist certification through the archdiocesan catechist certification program. The Blog Spot

This section will include local and national blogs that will inspire, teach, and call to action. This month features the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Labor Day statement from Bishop Stephen E. Blaire, Chair of the Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development of the USCCB.

Placing Work and Workers at the Center of Economic Life

This Labor Day, our country continues to struggle with a broken economy that is not producing enough decent jobs. Millions of Americans suffer from unemployment, underemployment or are living in poverty as their basic needs too often go unmet. This represents a serious economic and moral failure for our nation. As people of faith, we are called to stand with those left behind, offer our solidarity, and join forces with "the least of these" to help meet their basic needs. We seek national economic renewal that places working people and their families at the center of economic life.
