January 9
Feast, Baptism of the Lord
bap of Lord
On January 9, 2011, the Church celebrates the feast of the Baptism of the Lord. Can you remember anything about your baptism? Do you have any photographs to help you remember? Do you still have your baptismal candle? One suggestion for you on this day is to relight your baptismal candle, reflect on the importance of baptism, and ask yourself, "Have I been true to the promises my parents made for me, or the ones I made for myself?"

2011 New Year's Resolutions

I am going to go on a diet! I am going to exercise more! I am going to do a better job saving my money! I am going to spend more time with my family! I I am going to be nicer to people! I am going to go to church more! These are all wonderful and very common New Year's resolutions. Perhaps some if not all of these are on your list already. What about making a list of resolutions that will improve your relationship with God, the Church, and yourself? These can be anything from: 1. Going to Mass every week.
2. Read the Bible either every morning or every night.  3. Make use of the sacrament of penance. 4. Join a prayer group or scripture study class. 5. Tithe as much as I am honestly able to give. 6. Volunteer at my parish. 7. Say a daily or weekly rosary. 8. Read the Catechism of the Catholic Church. 9. Spend 5-10 minutes every day in private personal prayer. 10. Invite others to attend Mass with you. The list could go on and on. Just remember, when you think you are unable or unmotivated to fulfill these resolutions, think of what the angel told Mary, "For nothing will be impossiable for God" (Luke 1:37).
