Sharon's Christmas Prayer, by John Shea

She was five, sure of the facts,
and recited them with slow solemnity,
convinced every word was revelation.
She said they were so poor
they had only peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to eat
and they went a long way from home without getting lost.

The lady rode a donkey, the man walked,
and the baby was inside the lady.
They had to stay in a stable with an ox and an ass (hee-hee)
but the Three Rich Men found them because a star lited the roof.

Shepherds came and you could pet the sheep but not feed them.
Then the baby was borned.
And do you know who he was?

Her quarter eyes inflated to silver dollars.
The baby was God.

And she jumped in the air, whirled round, dove into the sofa,
and buried her head under the cushion which is the only proper response
to the Good News of the Incarnation.

Fr. Medley      A very significant thing. . .
happened in the Archdiocese of Louisville this week.  Reverend William F. Medley, Archdiocese of Louisville priest and pastor of Saint Bernadette Parish, has been chosen by Pope Benedict XVI as the new Bishop of Owensboro, Kentucky. Bishop-elect Medley will be ordained and installed as Bishop of Owensboro onFebruary 10, 2010.
Here is Bishop-elect Medley's statement in which he shares the significance of his family and those he served with as pastor.  His entire statement and video on-demand of the press conference announcing his appointment can be found www.archlou.org
"I am who I am because of the love and support of my family and my debt to them can never be paid in full. It is a great joy to me that my mother, Dorothy Medley, is still with me to support me and pray for me. I thank God for her and for the wonderful Christian father that I had. My brothers and sisters and my large extended family have always been and will be a source of great faith and strength.
I wish to acknowledge the faith of the people I have been privileged to serve as pastor, the people of Saint Martin de Porres, the Basilica of Saint Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown, and Saint Bernadette. If I have been a good pastor, it is because these faithful ones have taught me what that means."
