August 14th

Kicking off the 2010 PEC Jazz Fest is no small task but s'pos )in( promises to be unlike anything you have ever experienced before. A fusion of text painting, vocal performance, live music, live dance, and live video mixing, the one-night-only event will feature local and internationally recognized artists performing Alice Teichert's text poetry.

Born in Paris, raised in Brussels and now living just north of Port Hope, Teichert regularly exhibits her paintings at the Oeno Gallery in Bloomfield. Last August, she experimented with the paintings as a music score with Bram Gielen and Alex Samaras before a sold out crowd at the Oeno Gallery. Quinte Ballet's artistic director John Ottmann saw the performance and was inspired to create a dance; members of the Ontario Arts Council were in attendance

Performed by Alex Samaras and Christine Duncan (vocals); Vern Dorge (reeds); Bram Gielen (bass); Francine Liboiron and Martine Lusignan (dance); Hri Neil (live video mixing). Choreography by John Ottmann and Victoria May. Produced and directed by Carlyn Moulton & Alice Teichert.

Saturday August 14 2010, 8:00 PM

What did members of the first audience have to say?

" Delicious risk taking...Every once in a while, there is a happening in the art world that catapults us into a heightened state and keeps us "wired" all through the night ... I felt like a listener attending a premiere by John Cage or Murray Schafer, both innovators of nonconventional graphic notation, purposeful silences and soundscapes and influenced in turn by New York's Fluxus artists. It is definitely worth the risk. "
-Nan Williamson

"A delightfully strange experience. She is the pure vibration that takes poetry beyond all barriers of language". -Melanie Brown
