Labyrinths: Clay & Paper:
New Work by Susan Collett
October 16 - November 10
Opening Reception: Saturday, October 17, 3 - 7pm

Susan Collett's latest series of ceramic sculptures break new ground. Lush and mysterious, they challenge our ideas of space and light, and push the boundaries of possibility within the medium.

Collett's new works, from her Labyrinth series, continue to provoke. Her core interest lies in the exploration of chaos through form and control of light and the dichotomy of strength versus fragility. Two artist residencies in China have been integral in solidifying these ideas.

Collett's unique print works echo the themes of her ceramic works. They are executed from plates made from stitched industrial-grade copper sheeting. All images are single monoprints, not edition printed.

Collett has received numerous awards for her work and recently received the honour of being inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts. Her work has been featured in exhibitions in Canada, the U.S., China and Korea.

Collections holding Collett's work include The Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, The Tom Thomson Memorial Art Gallery, The Burlington Art Centre, The Crown Collection of the Official Residences of Canada (Rideau Hall), The Queen Elizabeth Hotel (Montreal), The Korean World Ceramic Museum, The Ontario Securities Commission, The Bank of Montreal, The Trump Tower (Miami), and Greenspan, Humphries, Levine.

Ingeborg Mohr
Threshold: The Works of Ingeborg Mohr, RCA (1921 - 2004)
Continues until October 14

Throughout her artistic career, from her first exhibit in 1955, through her last, in 2001 Ingeborg Mohr addressed the central question: How do we hold the world around us, encompass it and let it be?

Mohr was described as one of Canada's greatest artists by author Maria Tippett, scholar and art historian.

Those who give Ingeborg Mohr's work the time and place they deserve are deeply rewarded with glimpses of her determined optimism, hard won moments of relief - and even joy - that emerged from her solitary times.

Mohr's work is held in many private, public and corporate collections in Europe, the U.S. and Canada.

The pieces in this exhibition - eight works on paper from different periods, plus four canvases - are carefully selected highlights from the works remaining in Mohr's personal collection. They are offered for sale for the first time through a silent auction and have a reserve bid of the approximate price of her work at her last exhibitions.

Oeno Gallery, exclusive agent for Mohr's works, will accept bids until 6pm, October 14. Proceeds will go to the Hans and Ingeborg Mohr Arts Fund to support the maintenance of the Mohr home and studio on Howe Island as a retreat for artists and writers.

"Transformation of Place" will air in Toronto at Creative Places + Spaces (October 28 - 30), one of the world's leading forums on creativity which this year focuses on local change makers and the art and science of collaboration.
