Alice Teichert:
Visual Poetry |
 |
Alice Teichert: Visual Poetry August 18 - September 14 Alice Teichert is no ordinary painter. She is an artist who creates a space where painting + language + music = visual poetry.
As Teichert's work evolves, it refers to familiar elements - a lyrical vocabulary of graphic notations fused with high colour and translucent glazing - yet is peppered with surprises. She finds new freedom in these intuitive, complex and sensual works.
Distinguished art critic, Ken Carpenter, praises her work as "a fluid language that moves our soul" where "abstraction, especially, is a spiritual experience, always alive and full of endless promise, with destinations yet unknown."
Teichert's new exhibit features ten text'paintings on canvas, plus the 32-panel score from s'pos )in(, her new text/painting/jazz composition. The show may be previewed on August 18, 10am - 6pm. A catalogue for the exhibition is available.
Teichert's s'pos )in(, performed with bassist Bram Gielen and vocalist Alex Samaras, premieres at Oeno on August 18 from 8pm - 9:30pm. This performance is sold out.
Alice will be speaking at the gallery about her work early in September. Watch our website for dates. |

Greg Angus Exhibit Continues until August 16
Angus' large-scale encaustic paintings - layers upon layers of oil paint mixed with melted wax - play with notions of identity, both individual and collective. Beginning with a fingerprint, Angus manipulates the image, creating a collage. Within the collage, he exposes complex patterns reminiscent of those found in the human body, sub atomic particles and the movements of star systems. By transforming the fingerprint - our basic form of identity - his paintings bridge the gap between what is wholly unique to every individual, and what exists for all of us in the universe.
"Kinetic use of colour is signature in Angus' work. The high-saturation and neon-brights vibrate with energy drawing us through many pathways in the image," observes art critic, Monika Burman, in the July/August edition of MAG Mass Art Guide. "You need time with these works to feel the electric connections of colours running into one another, bouncing off one another, and fusing together." |
