Andrew Lui Exhibition
Opening Saturday, June 27th from 3 - 7 pm |

June 26 - July 23
Born in Canton, China, Andrew Lui swam to exile in Hong Kong at the age of 19 after being "reformed" during the Cultural Revolution. Trained formally in art and art history in Florence, London and Toronto, Lui is now a leading artist and curator in Montreal. His work has received critical acclaim for exhibitions in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Brussels, Florence, Paris, Hong Kong, South Korea and Tokyo, and is held in many prestigious private and public collections worldwide.
This new exhibition of Lui's works at Oeno Gallery features paintings in ink and acrylic on rice paper. The pieces are visual translations of those things which both afflict and affect us, the sorrows and joys of living. Lui speaks to the duality in all things, the dialogue between east and west, the passage of time and its recurring themes.
"Sparse and strikingly contemporary, Lui's compositions proclaim their own territory while his brushstroke harks at the fluidity of eastern calligraphy," notes Montreal art critic, Dorota Kozinska.
Please join us at the Opening Reception on June 27 from 3pm - 7pm.

Ben Woolfitt Exhibit Continues until June 23
Oeno presents Ben Woolfitt's first solo show in Canada in five years. "I have no doubt that Woolfitt is at the height of his powers," says art critic Ken Carpenter. His "gift for colour has never been more apparent than in his most recent paintings. Some have taken as long as nine months to bring to their final, glorious state. And glorious is the right word for them, with their shimmering, iridescent surfaces that can change from gold to silver as you walk around them. Woolfitt is not just a master craftsman - he is an inspired and profound artist." |

We have also added works by Hanna Back to our sculpture offerings. Working in clay and steel, Back's indoor and outdoor architectural pieces are invitations to explore our relationship to space.
"These sculptures are essentially abstract but evoke associations and remembrances of things past and also act as mirrors of our human relationships with all their implications," says Back.

Art in the Garden
Oeno's summer garden is growing as we take the gallery out of doors with works in steel, copper, lead, glass, marble, stone, stainless steel and neon.
Playing with light, movement, space and textures, the sculptures - both playful and evocative -encourage contemplation and examination of our connections to the natural environment.
Our ZimArt pieces are carved and finished with hand tools by Shona artists from Zimbabwe. The unique stone sculptures are renowned for their expressiveness and the range of colours that can be found within each piece.
Prince Edward County sculptor Doug Robinson's work in marble is tactile and organic. "The infinite variation of stone colour and texture, as well as the unfathomable history under various pressures and heat, become silent undercurrents in the work," says Robinson.
David James' large scale sculptures in stone, and stainless steel and stone, juxtapose round and angular shapes, and highly polished and rough surfaces, to create dynamic, fascinating forms.
Mark Clark's kinetic works combine found objects and new materials that balance in the air or move silently in the wind - reminders of our presence in the world.
The glass and stainless steel Urn created by artist Anne O'Callaghan, is a vessel that holds both the drama and tranquility of nature. If it is situated by the water, the glass in the piece reflects the sunset, creating the illusion that the urn is filling
and then emptying as the sun goes down. |
Summer Hours
Huff Estates Winery and the Oeno Gallery are now open until 8pm on Friday and Saturday nights.
The Winery Patio is now open for lunch 7 days a week. Enjoy jazz on the Patio every Sunday afternoon. |
