OCTOBER 17 - DECEMBER 1 Upper Gallery: New work by Sylvain Louis-Seize Lower Gallery: New work by Etienne Labbé

Sylvain Louis-Seize
New work by Sylvain Louis-Seize continues his compelling exploration of various landscape themes. Rugged and monumental, his recent shows in Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto have attracted many new collectors to his work. "I do not paint landscapes to be beautiful, nor to have a message but more for the viewer to contemplate the image and for the painting to evoke an emotion, question or connection".
- Sylvain Louis-Seize, 2008

Etienne Labbé
Etienne Labbé's abstract photographs explore speed and movement, the fleeting manner in which we often perceive the beauty that surrounds us.

UNTIL OCTOBER 13: GROUP SHOW New work by Alice Teichert, John Paul Robinson, Nancy Zboch & Su Sheedy
|
Alice
Teichert
Alice
Teichert's work is all about transparency and translucency. She creates a three dimensional space with a
feeling of depth on her canvases by applying many consecutive fine
glazes of pigmented gel medium interspersed with text-like signs or
waveforms reminiscent of hieroglyphics. Smooth lush surfaces invite the
viewer into reflection through open signs in light of endless
possibilities.
Alice Teichert
She has also recently created The Text is Still Unwritten, 8 serigraphs beautifully printed in a limited numbered edition. |

 |
Nancy Zboch
Nancy uses found objects and a variety of materials to
create her striking mixed media mosaic sculptures. Her work is an
exploration of material, colour and texture.
"My work is a
combination of the current: materials & experiences and the
historical: found objects & memories. I strive to achieve tactile
beauty with this combination via abstracted design, compelling texture
and complexity of colour. Once the theme and design direction is
resolved, my intuition takes over, allowing the materials to dictate
the final outcome. In my mind, each of my pieces are alive with lyrical
energy and reflection." |
Su Sheedy
"My paintings at first glance could be mistaken for relatively serene images of pleasing tones and independent shapes, but eventually give way to the real subject matter: texture. Rich layers of beeswax are gouged into or poured on top, informing a wilder surface with rowdy and random movement. This is intimacy on a large scale".
- Su Sheedy
Su's new series of encaustic works is entitled 'Swamps and Playgrounds'. Her work has been exhibited in Chicago, Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto.

This is your last chance to view Oeno's outdoor sculpture exhibition featuring works by Shayne Dark, Anne O'Callaghan, Doug Robinson, Peter Blendell, Lisa Kurtz, Mark Clark and Nancy Zboch. Each artist has created whimsical sculptures out of recycled materials and found objects.
The show coincides with the opening of the new Fifthtown facility, the first LEEDS certified artisanal cheese facility in North America. Tumbling waterfalls from cedar rails, spectacular porticos for nesting ospreys, groves of 'electrical' trees, kinetic frenetic scrap metal meanderings, and benches for meditation - this exhibition of garden sculpture is in a spectacular location, 4309 County Road #8 (past Waupoos), in Prince Edward County.
The works are for sale. Bonus experience: Fifthtown offers free tours of its outstanding eco-friendly design, amazing cheese, and periodic cheese and wine tastings.

SUSAN Collett's show continues at the Tom Thompson Gallery until November 16th. Winning the Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics in 2003 allowed ceramic artist Susan Collett to study in Jingdezhen, China, the centre for porcelain production for many centuries. The unique Chinese landscape, its multi-tiered tea farming, layered tile rooftops and willowing bamboo forests inspired her. The artist began working with earthenware paper clay. Constructing large sculptural vessels she has named the Moiré Series. The delicate works are highly perforated, allowing light to inhabit the interior, illuminating their subtle exterior colouring. The artist writes: "As in the flux of nature's growth and decay, I want the movement and undulating form of the Moiré suite to reflect the continuum of life. I am interested in the dichotomy of strength versus fragility, the movement of the light and the clay and point to this in the pierced and punctured forms." This exhibition also includes a selection of monoprints printed from stitched copper sheeting depicting organic forms and patterns akin to the sculptures. Her work is available through the Oeno Gallery.
Don Stinson has recently sculpted an extraordinary piece from a large birch burl found in Eastern Ontario. It measures 53"L x 36"W x 30"D and will be featured at a number of shows in the US this year. It is available through the gallery for $30,000. |
Construction at the new Gallery site continues. The new Gallery is being built within the vineyard at Huff Estates Winery and Inn, and starting in January 2009, we will be open 7 days a week. |
