Sept 12 - Oct 13: Group Show New work by Alice Teichert, John Paul Robinson, Nancy Zboch & Su Sheedy

Alice Teichert
Alice Teichert's work is all about transparency and translucency. What is unique about her paintings is that she has developed her own technique with acrylic paints. She creates a three dimensional space with a feeling of depth on her canvases by applying many consecutive fine glazes of pigmented gel medium interspersed with text-like signs or waveforms reminiscent of hieroglyphics. Smooth lush surfaces invite the viewer into reflection through open signs in light of endless possibilities.
"Each trace creates a new opening for a fresh relationship with the medium. At the heart of my expression I find a visual language. Waves of resonance invite me into a universal space I like to call 'visual poetry', where we all can find our swing." -Alice Teichert, 2008
She has also recently created The Text is Still Unwritten, 8 serigraphs beautifully printed in a limited numbered edition.

John Paul Robinson Award-winning glass artist John Paul Robinson makes his home in the Bay of Quinte area. His work explores ideas of gravity, flight and the illusions of time. It has been exhibited internationally and is now in the permanent collections of the Museum of Civilization, Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, and the Museum of American Glass. |
Nancy Zboch
Nancy uses found objects and a variety of materials to
create her striking mixed media mosaic sculptures. Her work is an
exploration of material, colour and texture.
"My work is a
combination of the current: materials & experiences and the
historical: found objects & memories. I strive to achieve tactile
beauty with this combination via abstracted design, compelling texture
and complexity of colour. Once the theme and design direction is
resolved, my intuition takes over, allowing the materials to dictate
the final outcome. In my mind, each of my pieces are alive with lyrical
energy and reflection." - Nancy Zboch
|
Su Sheedy
"My paintings at first glance could be mistaken for relatively serene images of pleasing tones and independent shapes, but eventually give way to the real subject matter: texture. Rich layers of beeswax are gouged into or poured on top, informing a wilder surface with rowdy and random movement. This is intimacy on a large scale".
- Su Sheedy
Su's new series of encaustic works is entitled 'Swamps and Playgrounds'. Her work has been exhibited in Chicago, Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto.

October 17 - November 30: Sylvain Louis-Seize & Etienne Labbe
|
Sylvain Louis-Seize "My recent body of work explores three landscape themes: lush blues, stormy skies and the dark series. In these pieces, I am observing different relationships and facets of landscapes. In particular, their uniqueness at different times and periods which I feel are naturally enhanced by the condition and moment in which we view them. I am always looking to capture memories which are ephemeral but poignant. I do not paint landscapes to be beautiful, nor to have a message but more for the viewer to contemplate the image and for the painting to evoke an emotion, question or connection".- Sylvan Louis-SeizeThis is Sylvain's third solo show at Oeno Gallery. His work can be found in various private and corporate collections throughout Canada, United States and Europe.

Etienne Labbé
Etienne Labbé was born in Québec city and grew up in the Saguenay region. Dividing his time between explorations in art and science, he trained as a molecular biologist in Montreal and Toronto. Now living and working in Toronto, he works with several media including sculpture, watercolour, and photography. His work consists of rapidly shifting explorations of scale, color, movement, light, and mood.
"My current series of photos captures the fleeting beauty of landscapes and objects we see every day, driving along the highway, but with a perspective that is shifted and in motion. This beauty is often trapped by our static views and desensitized perceptions of the world around us".
- Etienne Labbé

New Work

"For some time now, Ben Woolfitt has been known primarily as a highly successful entrepreneur - the founder (in 1978) of an international enterprise, Woolfitt's Art Supplies- and an inspiring teacher of studio art at the school he founded and ran from 1972-1979: Woofitt's School of Contemporary Painting. These accomplishments have obscured the fact that Woolfitt is a gifted painter of great inventiveness, one who has continually renewed his art over more than three decades to produce numerous quite different series of richly inspired paintings and drawings."
-Ken Carpenter, in Ben Woolfitt as Intimist
The Gallery now has several works by Ben Woolfitt on canvas and on paper. We will be hosting an exhibition of his new work in June, 2009.

Continuing until October 15 7G - Oeno presents a cheeky outdoor sculpture exhibition featuring works by Shayne Dark, Anne O'Callaghan, Doug Robinson, Peter Blendell, Lisa Kurtz, Mark Clark and Nancy Zboch. Each artist has created whimsical sculptures out of recycled materials and found objects.
The show coincides with the opening of the new Fifthtown facility, the first LEEDS certified artisanal cheese facility in North America. Tumbling waterfalls from cedar rails, spectacular porticos for nesting ospreys, groves of 'electrical' trees, kinetic frenetic scrap metal meanderings, and benches for meditation - this exhibition of garden sculpture is in a spectacular location, 4309 County Road #8 (past Waupoos), in Prince Edward County.
The works are for sale. Bonus experience: Fifthtown offers free tours of its outstanding eco-friendly design, amazing cheese, and periodic cheese and wine tastings.
