SUNDAY AUGUST 17 2:00pm - JAZZ AT THE GALLERY With Lorne Lofsky and Kathryn Moses & Artists Talk with Kim Atlin and Scott Pattinson
|
| Until Sept 8: Kim Atlin & Scott Pattinson
|
Kim Atlin New collection of work by Kim Atlin. Her work is lyrical, spare and arresting, described by many as reminiscent of works by David Milne. In this new series, she explores the rich landscape of the lily pond. Kim's work is in many private collections, and has recently been added to the Province of Ontario's permanent collection.
" We take insubstantial, fragmented images and fill them out to make complete narratives. It is this tension between the negative space, what is withheld from the frame of the painting and what is suggested that engages the viewer in a conversation with my work."
- Kim Atlin, 2008

Scott Pattinson Scott's energetic paintings are filled with movement, vivid colour and a structural composition that is informed by his educational background in Urban Design (Oxford University) and Architecture (University of Toronto). Described by R.M. Vaughan in the National Post as "a colourful glimpse into the ever moving present", Scott's work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Canada. He lives and works in Guelph.

Jazz at the Gallery This is the third year that the Oeno Gallery has supported Prince Edward County's Jazz Festival. It used to be confined to a few short days in August in a very few locations - now jazz events happen throughout the year, and there are over 30 satellite locations for jazz during the August festival itself. Kathryn Moses, jazz flautist, and one of Canada's finest jazz guitarists, Lorne Lofsky, will be here on Sunday, August 17th. The event is free and takes place from 2-4 at the Gallery by the water. Bring a blanket or come by boat. NOTE: This will take place outside, weather permitting, or indoors if it's raining. |
Artists Talk
Throughout the year Oeno hosts 'salons' - discussions with artists and art lovers about the work and the art scene. Kim Atlin & Scott Pattinson will be speaking about their work on Sunday, August 17th from 4:30 - 5:30. The events are free, but space is limited - call ahead to reserve a chair or drop by if you don't mind standing. |

Alice Teichert
Alice Teichert's work is all about transparency and translucency. What is unique about her paintings is that she has developed her own technique with acrylic paints. She creates a three dimensional space with a feeling of depth on her canvases by applying many consecutive fine glazes of pigmented gel medium interspersed with text-like signs or waveforms reminiscent of hieroglyphics. Smooth lush surfaces invite the viewer into reflection through open signs in light of endless possibilities.
"Each trace creates a new opening for a fresh relationship with the medium. At the heart of my expression I find a visual language. Waves of resonance invite me into a universal space I like to call 'visual poetry', where we all can find our swing." -Alice Teichert, 2008
She has also recently created The Text is Still Unwritten, 8 serigraphs beautifully printed in a limited numbered edition.

John Paul Robinson Award-winning glass artist John Paul Robinson makes his home in the Quinte area. He studied at OCA, and taught art there for fourteen years. He currently teaches at Espace Verre in Montreal, Quebec. His work has been exhibited internationally and is in the collections of several important museums throughout North America. |
Nancy Zboch
Nancy uses found objects and a variety of materials to create her striking mixed media mosaic sculptures. Her work is an exploration of material, colour and texture.
"My work is a combination of the current: materials & experiences and the historical: found objects & memories. I strive to achieve tactile beauty with this combination via abstracted design, compelling texture and complexity of colour. Once the theme and design direction is resolved, my intuition takes over, allowing the materials to dictate the final outcome. In my mind, each of my pieces are alive with lyrical energy and reflection." |
Su Sheedy "My love of wax comes from its ability to conceal. After building layers, I can then excavate down to quietly reveal a history of colour or embedded objects."
Su's encaustic works have been exhibited in Chicago, Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto.

Continuing untill October 30 7G - Oeno presents a cheeky outdoor sculpture exhibition featuring works by Shayne Dark, Anne O'Callaghan, Doug Robinson, Peter Blendell, Lisa Kurtz, Mark Clark and Nancy Zboch. Each artist has created whimsical sculptures out of recycled materials and found objects.
The show coincides with the opening of the new Fifthtown facility, the first LEEDS certified artisanal cheese facility in North America. Tumbling waterfalls from cedar rails, spectacular porticos for nesting ospreys, groves of 'electrical' trees, kinetic frenetic scrap metal meanderings, and benches for meditation - this exhibition of garden sculpture is in a spectacular location, 4309 County Road #8 (past Waupoos), in Prince Edward County.
The works are for sale. Bonus experience: Fifthtown offers free tours of its outstanding eco-friendly design, amazing cheese, and periodic cheese and wine tastings.
