SUNDAY JULY 20 - JAZZ AT THE GALLERY With San Murata, Tony Quarrington and Beverly Taft & Artists Talk with Sasha Rogers and Ron Eccles
|
Aug 8 - Sept 8: Kim Atlin & Scott Pattinson
|
Kim Atlin New collection of work by Kim Atlin. Her work is lyrical, spare and arresting, described by many as reminiscent of works by David Milne. In this new series, she explores the rich landscape of the lily pond. Kim's work is in many private collections, and has recently been added to the Province of Ontario's permanent collection.
" We take insubstantial, fragmented images and fill them out to make complete narratives. It is this tension between the negative space, what is withheld from the frame of the painting and what is suggested that engages the viewer in a conversation with my work."
- Kim Atlin, 2008

|
Scott Pattinson Scott's energetic paintings are filled with movement, vivid colour and a structural composition that is informed by his educational background in Urban Design (Oxford University) and Architecture (University of Toronto). Described by R.M. Vaughan in the National Post as "a colourful glimpse into the ever moving present ", Scott's work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Canada. He lives and works in Guelph.

Continuing until Aug 4: Sasha Rogers, Ron Eccles, & San Murata

Sasha Rogers "In painting, like all poetic expression, meaning occurs somewhere between what is invented and what is invited. Just as poetry is about the ways that words resonate together, my painting offers a vibration between foreground and background, upper and lower. The difference is transcribed by a horizon line: a bridge, a cliff, the middle ground. This is the point where the mind can be still." - Sasha Rogers, 2008
Each year, Sasha Rogers creates a few paintings - each one an exquisite exploration of the point of contemplation. She grew up in Saskatchewan, and studied art at both the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Alberta. She is a respected art teacher, and held classes for over 10 years at the University of Toronto. Her work is in many private collections, and is exhibited at the Jennifer Kostuik Gallery (Vancouver) and at the Oeno Gallery in Prince Edward County. She regularly spends time in 'the County' with her parents, Barbara and Otto Donald Rogers. |
Ron Eccles Ron Eccles creates mesmerizing hard edged paintings, juxtaposing rhythms and colours in unexpected ways. He is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and studied printmaking with Walter Bachinski and Gene Ghu at the University of Guelph. He then completed a masters degree in printmaking with Marucio Lasansky. He taught art at OCAD for many years and makes his home in Bowmanville.

San Murata San Murata is a graduate from the University of Musashi, Tokyo, Japan. In 1968 he immigrated to Canada where he became Art Director for the City TV, Global TV and CTV News Networks. His creative talents have encompassed illustration work for books, magazines, newspapers, and other media, and, in addition, he is an accomplished violinist, performing with many of Canada's foremost Jazz and Pop performers. His work has garnered numerous awards, and, in 1996, one of his illustrations was selected for inclusion in a book being published by UNICEF (New York). In 2002 San and his wife, painter Cathy Pentland, moved from Toronto to the town of Port Hope, Ontario, where he continues to create his charming paintings. |
Continuing untill October 30 7G - Oeno presents a cheeky outdoor sculpture exhibition featuring works by Shayne Dark, Anne O'Callaghan, Doug Robinson, Peter Blendell, Lisa Kurtz, Mark Clark and Nancy Zboch. Each artist has created whimsical sculptures out of recycled materials and found objects.
The show coincides with the opening of the new Fifthtown facility, the first LEEDS certified artisanal cheese facility in North America. Tumbling waterfalls from cedar rails, spectacular porticos for nesting ospreys, groves of 'electrical' trees, kinetic frenetic scrap metal meanderings, and benches for meditation - this exhibition of garden sculpture is in a spectacular location, 4309 County Road #8 (past Waupoos), in Prince Edward County.
The works are for sale, and a catalogue for this exhibition will be launched in August. Bonus experience: Fifthtown offers free tours of its outstanding eco-friendly design, amazing cheese, and periodic cheese and wine tastings.

Oeno hosts jazz violinist and painter San Murata with two time Juno winner guitarist Tony Quarrington and vocalist extraordinaire Beverly Taft on Sunday July 20. Beverly and San toured Japan together earlier this year, and her latest CD has been played on stations across North America. Kathryn Moses, jazz flautist, and one of Canada's finest jazz guitarists, Lorne Lofsky, will be here on Sunday, August 17th. The events are free and take place from 2-4 at the Gallery by the water. Bring a blanket or come by boat. |
Artists Talk Throughout the year Oeno hosts 'salons' - discussions with artists and art lovers about the work and the art scene. Sasha Rogers, Ron Eccles and San Murata will be speaking about their work on July 20th from 4:30-6:00. The events are free, but space is limited - call ahead to reserve a chair or drop by if you don't mind standing.

The
rumour that Shayne Dark has won the competition for the outdoor

scheduled for installation in the fall of 2009. Susan Collett

her outstanding ceramic work. The rumour that she was also appointed
to the INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY OF CERAMICS turns out to be true.
