Small Steps you Can Take Today

The theme of this month's Chester County Democrat is Small Steps You Can Take Today.  We are now in the lull between our energizing Democratic Primary and the inevitably fierce fight coming up this fall.

While we encourage you to enjoy your summer and slow down to better bear the heat, we need you to take some action today that will help us to achieve our goals in November.

We're not asking for a lot, but please take a few minutes to take care of business:

  • If you are not Registered to Vote, Register now!
  • Help a student apply for an absentee ballot (see below).
  • If you have not yet pledged to the Tomorrow Club, please consider doing so now.
  • Spread the word (see story below).

Student Absentee Ballots

Here in Chester County, nobody has to tell us about the importance of absentee ballots in an election. Less than two years ago, as we all remember, absentee ballots decided not only a race for State Representative, but that race swung the State House from Republican to Democratic by a single seat. In the end, victory for State Representative Barbara McIlvaine Smith and for the Democratic Party was determined by a margin of just 28 absentee ballots.

This year, absentee ballots will be a big factor again, mainly because of the huge registration increases among college age voters. Just in our County, thousands of them registered for the April Primary and thousands more are expected to enroll between now and November. We know most in this age group support Barack Obama and our other Democratic candidates, but this is a very mobile time of life and many students will have to learn to leap the absentee ballot hurdle to cast a vote.

The Democratic Party will target this age group with information, but these voters can be hard to reach. If you're in this group or know someone who is, you should learn now what to do about absentee ballots. It's a little more work than just showing up at the polls on election day, but hey, nobody ever said democracy was going to be easy. (...continue)
Start Spreading the News

You are reading the third monthly issue of the Chester County Democrat. We hope that you find the stories and information we are providing to be useful and stimulating!

As the Chester County Democratic Party continues to grow and mature, we will rely on this newsletter as a tool to help us become better united, better organized and better equipped to handle the challenges associated with advancing our ideals.

The goal of this newsletter is simple:  To get good Democrats elected into office at all levels of government.  As we consider what information to convey, we measure each idea against this goal.  We feel that it is vitally important to keep on task.

But our effectiveness in achieving our common goals must be measured  not only on how well we write, but also on how well we are read.  We currently have a subscriber base of about 4000.  The Democratic voter registration for the County is 113,000.  So we are asking your help (this is one of those little steps) to reach more targeted readers.

Please take a moment, and forward this message to 5 people using the "Forward email" link below.  Please select 5 Chester County Democrats, or others who you think share common values.  Each of the people you forward to will have the opportunity to subscribe if they want.

If everyone who reads this forwards to 5 people, we will be much more effective in achieving our goals.
