TSK Online Course Fall 2009
Greetings!

It's time to start planning for the online program for this year. We have a theme, some new technological developments, and a few calendar changes that will affect the start of the program. The program is open to everyone, whether you have previous experience with the TSK vision or not.
 Theme: The Self in Question

One of the key insights of the TSK vision is that there are ways of knowing that are not the property of the self. As that insight awakens within us, we come to learn that there are ways of being that also do not center on the self. Then the way opens for the new vision of reality-and our role within it-that stands at the heart of TSK.

Explorations of the self played an important role in last year's program. This year I want this to be the central focus. We will work mostly with material from Love of Knowledge, which offers remarkable ways of questioning the self, the structures of knowing and being that the self sets up and relies on. As always, readings will be short, and practices will mostly be the kind that you can do in the middle of daily activities. There will be three sessions in all, starting in September and continuing into June. CCI will offer a retreat in the summer, with the possibility of another retreat in Europe if there is enough interest. You can take the first session independently (September-December independent of the others).

Calendar

I will be traveling Europe in late October, and will be offering TSK-related programs in both Holland and Germany. With that in mind I want to structure the fall session differently. We will start with a three-week introduction, running from September 27 - October 11, in which the readings will be from Knowledge of Freedom, also by Tarthang Tulku (See below for complete readings for the first session.) Then we will take a three-week break (during which online discussions will continue). On November 8 we will start up again and run for six weeks, through December 13. This helps me handle my calendar. It will also give people who take part in the programs in Europe the chance to join the first session in a way that will work for them

Those of you who have taken the online program before know how it works: we have a 30-minute phone conference each Sunday at 9 AM Pacific Time; that call is also recorded and available to listen to online. During the week, you can log on to discussions on the CCI website, and I post an introductory essay each week to help frame our explorations.

This year we will start off the same way. But when we start up again in November, after the 3-week break, we will try switching to a different system. For people without high-speed internet, there will be no change, except a new phone number to call. But for people with high-speed internet and a webcam, you can join the Sunday live session online, with the ability to see video of everyone participating. This is an experiment. If it doesn't work, we'll switch back.
