Center for Creative Inquiry
Thoughts, Story and Self
TSK Online Course unit two
Zero point of emptiness

The Winter 2009 Online TSK Program starts January 12 and runs for nine weeks. There will be an introductory conference call on Sunday, January 11, which will be posted online. See the separate instructions on how to participate. Please also be thinking ahead to the retreat this summer, which will be held from June 21-25. If there is enough interest, this retreat will be followed by a separate retreat/conference for therapists interested in TSK as it relates to therapy.

The theme for this program is Thoughts, Story, and Self. Some of the questions we will explore:

The relation of thoughts to stories and thoughts to space
Ways to penetrate thoughts and thinking
Tapping the multidimensional creativity of thinking
Self as Story
The Subjective and Objective Realms

The readings for this Unit are drawn from both DTS and LOK. The DTS readings start off from where the last program ended, but you do not have to have taken the previous program to participate in this one. The readings from LOK jump around a bit, but I will do my best to provide continuity. The reading list can be accessed from the CCI Labyrinth phone calls and guidance.

The approach for this program is similar to what we did in the fall. Readings are short (always less than 10 pages a week), and we will emphasize the kind of inquiry and practice you can do in the middle of your daily activities, rather than formal sitting practice. The Sunday phone call proved quite successful, and we will continue with it. The recorded phone call will be posted online so that you can listen to it even if you did not participate. Most people seemed to find this helpful. Readings all come from Love of Knowledge and Dynamics of Time and Space.

Here is a revised version of the suggestions I made last time, which still apply:

1.      Do the reading; and return to it several times during the week.
2.      Practice several times a week in sessions of 5-10 minutes (longer if you like).
3.      Keep a journal and/or post entries on your experiences on the website. Respond to posts by others as you are moved to do so: questions, comments, etc. The interaction among participants is really a key part of the program. It is when we create a community of inquiry that the TSK vision becomes most effective.
4.      Practice informally while you are going about your daily activities, as much as you find yourself wanting to do so. (If you have a daily meditation practice, that might be an especially good time to do TSK practice, combining it with your meditation.)
5.      Participate in a weekly telephone conversation that I will lead for half an hour or so to discuss the week's reading. The call is held each Sunday at 9 AM Pacific Time, which is 12 noon on the east coast of the United States and 1800 in most of Europe. The call will be recorded and post each week on the website, so you can listen later.
6.      Plan to join us next summer for a 5-day retreat at Ratna Ling Retreat Center in California (optional). The retreat will be held June 21-25, Sunday evening through Thursday lunch.
